This venue has potential. Small tweaks to the presentation of food would transform it. For example scoring the duck breast and rendering in a hot pan for longer before serving skin side up. The Beef. wine and stilton pie was outstanding and had us all wishing we had ordered that from the menu! The steaks were superb. Beautifully cooked and excellent quality meat. Maybe oval plates required to accommodate the dish more aesthetically? Copious quantities of smoked salmon for the starter was followed by a disappointingly small portion of delicious fishermans ravioli. All the puddings we ordered were delightful. The cheeseboard is plenty for two people although you would need to order an additional glass of port. Last night was the first cold night of the winter and two of the ladies in our party had to keep their coats on. Maybe the heating needs to go on before service starts on a Thursday evening? If your are looking for somewhere different to eat on the area this is a must for your list of places to try. We were lucky enough to have a promotional voucher from Travelzoo but would happily pay full price next time. We were in a group of 4 but new some people in a larger group on another table. I think between us we tried the entire menu and no one could find fault. They have a small but we'll balanced menu and do them all very well. The steaks are brilliant. Every member of staff was most attentive from the barman who greeted us when we walked in to the waiting staff who knew the menu well and were happy to offer advice on choices. Sunday lunch with family . Very disappointing beef was OK however the rest of the lunch was just not to the standard we expected . No roast potatoes just a plate of mush . Potato and carrots. Gravy instant granules well that's what it tasted like. The cock and bull was a app to name for the beef and chicken in pepper sauce. The sauce tasted like it had been made with beef stock and cream no pepper at all. Sickley ! Not how described on the menu. This was our first time and definitely our last.
