Came here for a work Christmas Party, it was in a marquee which was absolutely freezing. I was suitably dressed for winter and yet had to keep my scarf and coat on as it was so cold. They turned on some heat for a few minutes at one point, but then it quickly got cold again. I had soup to start just as I wanted something hot to eat as I was so cold, which was quite nice, the bowl was huge if you had the time to use the smallest ladle to pour it into the bowl, my partner had the terrine, the bread was extremely thinly sliced and it was unclear if it was for everyone or just to go with the soup. Main course had 5 choices, the turkey/nut roast side ran out of plates so I went to get some more, the plates were very hot considering guests had to hold them with their bare hands, no napkins provided at the buffet table to carry them. My partner had the beef stew which only had carrot and beef in it with one dumpling and really runny gravy, not what I would call a stew, he was told he could help himself to roast potatoes, but they were with the turkey table with the utensils near the staff member so didn't feel he could help himself when she was using them to serve others, would've been better if there were some with the other table. I had the turkey which was OK, but for those that got roast potatoes near the bottom of the chaffing dish they were soggy rather than crispy. Dessert we had Baileys profiteroles (not overly tasting of Baileys though) and mincemeat frangipane, that didn't taste of almond at all, but I only had this so I could have the hot custard as I was still so cold. We left after we ate so unsure what the evening entertainment was like. Service could of been better with more staff serving the main course buffet so there wasnt such a queue, food was OK, but portion sizes very different depending on what you chose to eat and heating needs improving so it is more comfortable. Parking was very limited we so had to park down the street, would've been good if there was a sign to say it was full as many cars drove in then had to try and turn around to get back out to...

We booked a table in advance and when we arrived we were greeted with a warm smile and were taken to our table. The tables are really well spaced and there is additional seating outside in the garden. The menus were single use and all of the staff wore face masks. We ordered drinks while we perused the menu and they arrived quickly. The Doom Bar was at a nice, cool temperature and very refreshing. The menu has some classic pub-grub favourites (fish'n'chips, burgers and steaks) alongside some interesting vegan options. We placed our order and our meals arrived quite quickly, well presented and our server brought additional sauces at our request. The meals were really good, tasty and well prepared. My main course fish platter was excellent with crab meat, prawns, salmon and hot mackerel fillets and flat bread. The spicy chicken salad was equally good and the cajun and fries we had as a shared side will be difficult to resist on future visits. Service was excellent and our glasses didn't sit empty. There was a local band playing throughout the evening (Roxton Press) and although their drummer was absent (Covid!) they were very entertaining playing a laid back mix of familiar covers. They certainly made a dinner at the pub feel a little bit special. We will keep an eye open for the next time that they're appearing so we can come and enjoy another dinner with music here. The marquee stayed reasonably warm and we only resorted to our jackets as the evening was coming to a close. The toilets were clean and well stocked. The bill wasn't crazy expensive and the food and drinks we had were good value. Another one to add to our list of places to take friends and family and we'll definitely...
Read moreVisited the WH for Sunday lunch (deffo recommend you book ahead) for 3pm on 28 Oct and whilst the meal was delish, they'd clearly run out of meat and decided to serve a plate lacking in roast turkey. Yes, there was a few partial slices/bites but definitely not equalling even an ounce of meat! They'd already told us they were out of beef, pork, fish and chips and something else.
Our plates came with delicious food, just not much meat. Oh, and they forgot the sausage! Anyway, they offered us a pudding to apologise, which was nice, & the server apologised. Not his fault, they should've said,"we're out" or have had better communication between bookings, kitchen, servers. Yes, we'd have been disappointed to not have a Sunday lunch, but wouldn't preferred either a discounted plate or voucher to return another time.
White Horse has gone thru some changes in the past month, but could be amazing. I mean, really a-ma-zing! They've got glorious open fires, well trained staff and gifted chefs/kitchen. Plus a gorgeous period pub and restaurant area and huge beer garden, with lots of lawn and kids climbing apparatuses.
We'll return, but will book earlier if for...
