Victor Chan Oriental Cuisine — Restaurant in Huntingdonshire

Booked via their webpage and asked for confirmation of the booking. I never got this so had to ring up to check we did have a table. We ordered the set meal for 4 as it was a Birthday 'treat'. The place was busy: there was a table with at least 24 people on it and certainly another two with 6-8 on those as well. So, service was hit and miss and slow. After we had eaten the duck pancakes, we waited for the main dishes. By 45 minutes of waiting and several trips to ask what was going on, it transpired that the staff knew they were over booked for that night, had not enough staff and by then, our food had not even began to be cooked. According to the waiting staff, when they pushed the owner/cook, he said he "did not care" that people were waiting. After waiting an hour for the main dishes to come, we gave up and left. So much for a celebratory Birthday Meal. It was a disaster. The place was chaotic, fraught, so unwelcoming and not at all pleasant. If the Owner is so uncaring and not bothered by giving customers a pleasant evening, we will in future take our money elsewhere. Tried to get a food delivery after a previous bad experience with a delivery. Thought we would give them the benefit of doubt. We used to LOVE this Chinese but after this evening they have lost very loyal customers! Over 2 hours later no food, tried to call after 1 hour and 1/2 and said it would be another 15 minutes... lies! When it finally arrived we told the driver we would not be happy paying £43 when we waited for so long. Told us WE would have to call the restaurant to discuss it! Of course we thought that was ridiculous and expressed that to the driver. At that point the driver asked for the food back! APPALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE and no call to discuss issues or to apologise! Tried Victor Chan's for the first time this evening. We hadn't made a reservation but they managed to squeeze us in. The interior is clean, fresh and more chic than most chinese restaurants. The service was impeccable - efficient, friendly and attentive but without being too invasive. The food was delicious, every dish piping hot, full of flavour and beautifully presented.
