Steamboat Tavern — Restaurant in Ipswich

I've always liked the Steamboat. A 'proper' old fashioned (in the best sense of the word) spit and sawdust pub which gets all the basics spot on. The beer is outstandingly good. The best pint I've had for over a year. I can't comment on the food but it looked good. The main thing for me was the brilliant service. Popped in there for Sunday lunch with some of my family, who eat there every Sunday. Unfortunately they do not do a Sunday roast, but I had the chilli con carne which was very nice. Just the right amount of heat and portion size. The staff were very friendly and a jazz group turned up after we had eaten, so we stopped a while longer and enjoyed the music. The Steamboat's fine for a couple of pints if you're passing, and in the summer it's really nice to sit outside on the river wall with a drink, or in their garden. The staff are friendly, but the pub itself is a bit odd. It has music on quite a bit, and as such they never seem to get round to resetting the gig space to seating, so there's a huge blank space at one end of the pub.
