We visited to celebrate family birthdays. Arrived at 5pm and were the only guests in the upper dining room. There were only 2 or 3 senior staff on and the rest appeared to be trainees. We got drinks in reasonable time and then ordered our food. The main course took quite a while to arrive. Several meals included coleslaw which was very strange as it seemed like it had loads of ground pepper in it..... my meal was 'OK' (tempura vegetables, haddock burger) and just about warm enough to eat without complaint. Generally the food was enjoyed but nothing to write home about/special. It then took absolutely ages to get any further attention from the staff and I had to visit the bar and ask them to come over and take our order for puddings/sweets! Eventually got them ordered. They took quite a while to arrive (at this point there were still only TWO tables of visitors eating!!) Puddings/sweets were enjoyed, but again nothing special. After complaining about certain aspects of our experience, the lead waiter did give a discount on our bill to make up for it.... overall a pretty disappointing dining experience = won't be going...
Read moreThroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Booked online easily & secured deposit of £5pp. Table was ready when we arrived 15 mins early (was a quiet Monday though) Our server Michael was friendly, and spoke to us about our food choices as was our first time.
Food came out pretty quickly & was very tasty. I had the pulled pork BBQ burger and was very nice. My partner had the combo meat feast where you can pick either 2,3 or 4 mains and X amount of sides for each. He chose the pulled pork & Chorizo sausage. Decent price as well and big portion. Our meal came to £37 for two mains & 2 soft drinks.
Michael spoke to us for a while about their events and room hire, we didn’t feel rushed at all and is a nice cosy relaxed environment.
Ideal location, minutes walk from car park, only thing to consider if you have mobility issues the restaurant part is up 2 flights of stairs, not sure if they had a lift but didn’t see one.
They have a gin bar in the basement & a bar lounge on ground level. Everything was clean and tidy, will return again and also to their quiz...
Read moreStaff are very friendly. They have a wide choice of soft and alcoholic drinks and even a gin bar downstairs. Upstairs is a restaurant but I've never been up there. They have a mixture of family board games like guess who and Jenga and they are a dog friendly bar. They have dog walking meet ups where dog owners and non dog owners can meet up then go for a walk round the park and back to the pub where everyone including your four legged friend can get a refreshment. They have jam nights on once a week. There is a small seating area outside the front of the pub which gets full sun during the day. Personally I like sitting outside in the evenings when it's cooler and watch the world go by. The staff are very knowledgeable about the drinks they serve and if you sign up to the app you can collect points to spend on food and drink. Definitely my favourite bar in Ipswich and they have a proper disabled toiled on the main floor as the toilets...
