Arcade Tavern — Restaurant in Ipswich

Never done a review before. I’ve been a regular to the bar, but had a really disappointing experience with them recently.

I booked a table for me and my mum to celebrate her 50th. This was booked 3 weeks in advance and requested indoors.

Soon as we got there the bar staff said there was no booking. When the manager came over (who I knew from his voice as the person I dealt with on the phone to make the booking) he said there was no booking. I wasn’t particularly confident on the phone, but I confirmed multiple times that a booking had been made.

I have never written a review before because I’m very much of the opinion that ‘sh*t happens’ and sometimes things mess up - which is absolutely fine.

However, I’m writing this because of the really cold, unapologetic persona of the manager infront of my mum on her 50th birthday - simply wanting to have some drinks at her favourite bar in Ipswich.

No effort was made to solve the problem, no offer of a free drink to make up for the mistake, and we both agreed his entire persona indicating that we should leave and find somewhere else. The bar was busy so it’s our opinion that that he simply didn’t need our custom.

It’s a shame, because it’s been our place to meet regularly for years now. We’re not angry, but have agreed that we don’t really want to go back again.

I guess it’s more about how you treat customers when you have an abundance of them; anyone can be nice to a customer they really need.

Happy to speak again to the management if they are wanting...

We booked the back room.at the Arcade Street Tavern for a 50th Birthday Party. Ross and Ross could not do enough to assist with the preparation and planning for the event. They were so friendly and helpful, being flexible to meet our requirements with drinks and dj (DJ Jon was brilliant). The room is already a great space with the rear courtyard garden included, but they decorated it all beautifully with balloons and space for the cake, making it feel like a great party space. This pub I visited on Saturday, 16th April 2022 The pub served 2 real ales was well stuffed and controlled pub heading with people out for a good time Pub clean well maintained It's beer good, just a shame.
