Lets get straight to the point, £1.50 for a game of pool and to top it off, it is a crappy pool table. I mean £1.50 for a session of pool, what genius came up with that idea? That is the worst thing I have ever heard since finding out Cadbury Creme Eggs no longer contain Cadbury dairy milk chocolate. Filling it with a cheap alternative like the masses who love Cadbury Creme Egg won't notice or care, how wrong they were.
Anyways....... first of it should never cost more than 50p for a game of pool, anything else is an extortionate rip off. £1 smegging 50p for a game of pool, you can get 3 games elsewhere. Now for those that do not believe me, I took evidence to prove it. As it sounds like a lie. If more pubs start charging 1.50 for a game of pool, i am going to hold the Pendle Witch responsible. Now i feel bad as this is my friends favourite local pub. However, the world needs to know about the Great Britain rip-off. The worst thing though, was that I actually played two games of pool at this pub. I should of boycotted the pool table, but I did not. I feel shame, so much shame. The reason this pub does not get 1 out of 5, is that the bar staff were nice and my friend ordered a king size challenge burger that looked epic, though he failed to eat it. Like me, he probably left that pub feeling very...
Read moreIf you're looking for somewhere cheap to eat, then Pendle Witch is for you. Food is cheap, there's an offer of two for £6.95 on certain meals which is good value. Waiting times for food is not the best, considering when it comes out there's often something wrong with your order. Staff regularly mix up orders, forget drinks etc. I've eaten and drank here several times, the atmosphere is good, usually football on so if you're looking for somewhere to watch the game and eat/drink then head here. Regulars are old men and students. Pub would be MUCH improved if they actually had all of the ales which they advertised. Try and order the Beef Yorkshire Wrap, it is probably the best thing on the menu, but i've only been once when they have actually not run out. Would not recommend for a date.
Pros -Cheap drinks -Cheap food -Football -Student friendly
Cons -Poor service -Regular errors with food -Never...
Read moreI note that Google tags the Pendle Witch as a gastropub. I think that's a little generous.
True, this pub serves food, but that does not make it a gastropub.
The menu is reasonable in spread, but low in price, and in this case you get what you pay for.
The pub is popular, with a bar area, pool table, big screen football, cheap food etc.
This is OK for a bite if you're passing and don't mind the football etc., but don't go expecting a quiet and high quality gastropub dining experience. The decor is a bit tired too, at the time of writing.
There's no judgement in that, it is what it is. The market needs pubs like the Pendle Witch every bit as much as the higher end establishments.
So if you're looking for cheap, cheerful, football, pool, 5 stars. If like me, you want a quiet meal with your daughter of good...
