Visited this vegetarian/vegan cafe for a bite to eat just before closing yesterday. Our son and his girlfriend are both vegan and had eaten here before, but it was a first for my wife and I. The Whaletail is located on the 1st floor of a courtyard building in the City centre. The dining area is modern, clean and fresh looking. The menu had a wide choice of vegan and vegetarian dishes and there was a daily 'specials' board too. Our party ordered a heggity pie, a spicy beanburger with chips and 2 mac and cheeze with brocoli. All were served with side salad accompaniments. The portions were good, the food very tasty and the chips, in particular, were lovely - piping hot and very crispy. I found the beanburger very tasty but a little soft to the bite, almost mushy. The others all really enjoyed their choices and four very clean plates were left. If you fancy a visit, don't leave it too late in the day, as they close at 4.30pm. We arrived around 3.40 and were advised that we had 10 minutes before they stopped taking orders. Service was very good. Polite, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The food was served quickly too. Moderate prices. The above plus a pot of tea, a coffee cafetiere for one and a fruit juice was a few...

Stopped here for dinner (lunch). There was only one table remaining so I was concerned about the waiting time on food but it was quick as they reassured me it would be! I opted for the falafel and houmous salad, it was a generous portion with 2 wholemeal pitta breads given, I also got ice cream for afters and a soya latte to drink. I got carrot cake to take away.
The food was ok, the service was quick, the staff were friendly, patient and informative (I was having an indecisive day!)
They provided takeaway containers for me to take.
Bustling atmosphere, a little crowded with not much room to manoeuvre around the tables but manageable! Most things on the menu could be made vegan.
They accept card payments over £5. Reasonable prices.
Great central location therefore no free parking nearby.
Toilets downstairs, didn’t match the quality of the cafe, cold and uncosy.
There’s a whole foods shop downstairs but I didn’t have enough time to browse as I had to get...
Read moreVisited today for lunch. Not being local we always make time to come here for a meal as it is always excellent. Despite there being quite a queue we only waited ten mins for a table at 12:30. Loads of vegan options to choose from, including a range of specials. We both went for lasagne with whale tail salad and it didn't disappoint! Tasty portion if lasagne with an array of treats on the side - coronation chickpeas, grated carrot and green lentils, pasta salad with seeds and sprouted alfalfa. All nutritious, delicious and prepared with care. Service was excellent and there was a good selection of cakes/desserts to choose from, though we resisted on this occasion. The turmeric latte with espresso on the side also went down a treat! They are fundraising for a new roof so do get yourself along and make a donation like I did if you can. Thanks...
