Good variety of shows with some big names but also local performances too. For people on a limited budget, some of the shows can be a bit overpriced for what they are, but others are good value. Snacks and drinks are generally a reasonable price but slightly limited in choice. Box office has limited opening times. Audience has to stand outside in the street in all weathers until doors open. No disabled access to the upper floors, tricky access to toilets, but this is due to the historical nature of the old building. Wheelchair users have to use a side entrance, by request. Some seats have poor visibility, especially if a tall person sits in front of you, because the seats are lined up in columns rather than staggered positions with gaps between heads. Limited leg room on the front row of the circle. Sometimes it's possible to meet famous stars by waiting near the stage doors. Plenty of nearby parking but allow extra time for a car journey because the surrounding streets can often be gridlocked especially during rush hour and Saturday shopping. Generally a good venue to visit and...
Read moreWe went to the relaxed showing of the panto(as we have done since they started a few years ago). Honestly it gets better each year. The cast is larger, the quality of talent improves year on year. Kudos to the producer on taking over since her parent passed away. You have most definitely done her proud.
Loved the fact that there was an introduction to the cast members before the show began properly. Allowing those audience members time to familiarise with the cast. The cast then talking about 'pretending' to be the roles they were playing added an extra layer of understanding for those that needed it.
I'd also love to mention the lovely visual story that was emailed out a few days before the show. My children have been going for a few years now so no longer need this but, if it was their first time then it was absolutely spot on at giving all the information and photos needed to allow someone with additional needs know what to expect when they visit.
Keep up the fantastic work, we're already looking forward to next...
Read moreWent to see Tabby McTat at the Grand today... On arrival were told that we couldn't sit in the seats i had booked because we wouldn't be able to see the performance properly?! I had booked seats months ago so we were on the 3rd row from the stage in the stalls which i thought would be great for my 3 year old.. They changed our seats to upstairs in the circle 5 rows back from the front! My 3 year old struggled to see the stage from where we were sat. The performance of Tabby McTat was good but i wouldn't say it was aimed at young children.. for example none of the actors were dressed up as cats they just wore hats with ears glued on (each hat different representing the different characters) , t shirts and jeans and then they would swap hats throughout the show.... Very confusing for little ones to follow. The songs were good and the acting was great... This was our first visit to the Grand so we are quite...
