Lancaster City Museum — Attraction in Lancaster

Lancaster Castle not the museum. The castle has a horrible blood soaked history. There is a sculpture of the scales of justice. Well don't believe it cause the only justice to be had is when the creator sends his son at Armaggedon to wipe that place off the Earth. It was a prison up to a few years ago and the cells are shaped like coffins. I won't ever be going back there as it is a depressing torturous place. Hundreds of graves and human remains are below its foundations. If you like horror go there and knock yer self out...

Very nice museum, while it's a little more cramped than most I've visited in England, the exhibit has a lot to see from many periods related to Lancaster history from its foundation, their growth, main industries going all the way up to the World Wars. It's an easy recommendation for anybody interested in history and arts, since they also have some paintings. At the time of my visit they also had the paintings of (what I presume to be) local artists on display...

Enjoy this while you can! I've been to loads of local museums in northern towns and cities that have been redeveloped, but Lancaster museum is still old school and now seems quirky, ever so slightly ramshackle and above all well-loved. It isn't embarrassed to display lots of item from its collection - the highlight is the Roman sculpture.
