Jodhpur Leeds, nestled in the heart of Leeds, offers a fine dining experience that brings authentic Rajasthani and North Indian flavors to the UK. On my recent visit, I had the opportunity to savor a selection of their signature dishes, which left a lasting impression, both for the depth of flavor and the quality of service.
The moment you step into Jodhpur, you’re greeted with a warm, elegant atmosphere. The décor blends modern design with subtle nods to Indian heritage, creating an inviting space for both casual diners and those celebrating special occasions. However, it wasn’t just the ambiance that set the tone—it was the attentive service.
From the moment we were seated, the staff were courteous, professional, and very knowledgeable about the menu. They took time to explain the dishes in detail, highlighting the unique ingredients and preparation methods used. The pacing of the meal was perfect—not too rushed, yet we never felt neglected. The servers were on hand when needed, but not overly intrusive, which made the dining experience truly relaxing.
Now, to the heart of the experience—the food. We ordered several dishes, including the Old Delhi Tikka, Prawn tikka, Jodhpur Lal Maas, and Biryani. Each dish brought something special to the table, both in terms of presentation and flavor.
Old Delhi Tikka: The Old Delhi Tikka was a standout. Tender pieces of chicken, marinated in a rich blend of spices, were cooked to perfection. The smoky flavor from the tandoor really elevated the dish, and the chicken was juicy on the inside with a slightly crisp exterior. The spice level was moderate, allowing the deep flavors of the marinade to shine without overpowering the palate. The accompanying mint chutney added a refreshing tang, balancing the rich flavors of the tikka.
Chicken Chettinad Curry: The chicken chettinad was another highlight. The chciken was succulent, cooked just right so they retained their natural sweetness. The curry itself was a symphony of spices—cumin, coriander, and hints of chili—blended into a smooth, slightly creamy sauce. What impressed me most was the balance; the curry had enough heat to keep things interesting without overwhelming the prawns' delicate flavor. It was perfect with the garlic naan we ordered on the side, soaking up the flavors beautifully.
Jodhpur Lal Maas: As one of Rajasthan’s most famous dishes, the Jodhpur Lal Maas had high expectations to meet—and it did not disappoint. The lamb was incredibly tender, falling apart with just a fork. The curry had a robust, fiery heat, true to its traditional preparation, but it was more than just spicy. The depth of flavor, from the slow-cooked red chili paste to the garlic and yogurt that rounded out the dish, was remarkable. For those who enjoy bold, spicy flavors, this is a must-try.
Biryani: We rounded off the meal with the biryani, which was fragrant and beautifully presented. The rice was perfectly cooked—each grain separate yet moist. However, compared to the other dishes, the biryani felt slightly less memorable, though still very well-executed.
Jodhpur Leeds offers a truly authentic Indian dining experience, with food that showcases the vibrant, bold flavors of Rajasthan and North India. The standout dishes for me were the Old Delhi Tikka and the Jodhpur Lal Maas, both of which exemplified the kitchen's skill in balancing spices and cooking techniques.
The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable without being overwhelming. If you’re in Leeds and looking for an elevated Indian dining experience, Jodhpur is well worth a visit.
Pros: Authentic flavours, excellent service, standout dishes (especially the tikka and lal maas) Cons: Biryani, while good, didn’t stand out as much compared to...
