Portside Fish&Chips Kirkstall — Local services in Leeds

Price range is ok and decent, and not overly priced for the portion given. The only thing which I find unreasonable is the additional cost for sauce, and it’s for baseline sauce and not for adding sauce. Every fish and chips ate in Singapore comes with some tar tar sauce, no matter how little you get. Chilli and ketchup is also an added cost. Apart from the sauces, in general the fish is well battered and not so soggy. It can be further improved but at least it is not mushy, the chips however came wet and not crispy, which may suggest it is the cultural norm. Fries some were wet and stuck to the plastic surface. Thankfully the free salt helped. Chicken and mushroom pie was decent and filled with chunks of chicken. It seems to be lacking peas and potato but ok. Atmosphere of dining in, is super not conducive. Two benches outside the shop, and occasional exposure to sunlight. I would suggest to have shades and umbrella stands. But maybe it is to encourage more takeaways than dine in. Choices of fishes are only limited to one, and there seemed to be too many promotional banners around, suggesting multiple options for consumers but also confused on the true value proposition. Very disappointed to find the placed closed this afternoon. We had planned to get food for the family and had checked a couple of days ago that it would be open today. On arrival we were left disappointed. No explanation on the door but they had updated Google maps. It must've been a last minute decision as there were still dirty glasses on a table suggestion they hadn't even cleaned up for the Xmas break. Can't rate the food obviously but the reviews were so promising.

I relied on Google, which, when I checked a couple of days before, had said you'd be open. I've been buying from Portside for a few years now originally from the Harrogate Branch and more recently the Kirkstall Branch. I have to say somewhat disappointed with my order today. Firstly I ordered Large Chips and what we got was the best part of small. Normally a Large Chips is given in it's own box, however on this occasion the chips where in the same box as the fish, even though I placed an order for everything separately.
