Maria's — Restaurant in Leeds

This was my third visit but first for lunch having already ascertained that breakfast was a mistake here. On my first visit though the menu said 2 bacon, I received just the eye of the bacon rather than a rasher. So on my second visit I asked can I have the full rasher please not just the eye and was told ' no that's not how we do it. My guess is that they retain the rest of the rasher in order to use it in the club and other lunch time sandwiches. So to lunch, well the menu looks good and staff friendly. However when I pointed out I had ordered baguette /French stick I was told that the soft roll that was not even remotely crusty or crunchy that was on my plate was a baguette. I didn't argue as arguing with the irrational is never a good plan. To add, although some sandwiches said served hot and others not, both our sandwiches arrived warm even though it had not said that on the menu for our chosen sandwiches, my guess is the bead was stale and this was meant to mask that. There are better cafe's close by, the best being roulette on Meanwood road near the urban farm. So my advise would...

Absolutely appalling. The single star is only there because of the lovely lady who served us. The Chef was the worst i have ever seen, moody as hell and told us we can only have sandwiches even though they were due to close in over 30 mins from then. He said 'i have already packed up now theres no chance of anything other than a sandwich'. The woman was reluctant to let us down but you can tell he is hard on her. To say she has to put up with a person like that she was very nice. Sandwich was OK at best, could tell it was rushed. 2 more customers came in asking for an omelette while we were there to which the chef said there is no way i'm getting everything out again i will do a very basic omelette and thats it. One of the worst experiences I’ve had. Ordered a full English and at the time there was only 4 other people in. The wait for the food was ridiculous despite the place not even being busy. The toast came out by itself and I waited 20 minutes for the rest of the food to come by which time my toast was fully cold. When the breakfast finally came I asked for some fresh toast which they did but there was no sausages on the plate. The guy serving said they were coming. I started to eat and waited 10 more minutes and still no sign. I ended up finishing my food because it would have gone cold again. For a meal I paid £8.90 I wasn’t impressed. Surely it would be normal to wait for everything to be ready then plate it up together and serve at once? Overall really unimpressed.
