Really disappointing visit today.
Visited the one in Manchester with a friend and loved it, so thought my boyfriend and I could come here for our 3 year anniversary. Upon leaving he apologised to me and said he'd never be coming back, and I don't blame him.
Walked in and got seated by blonde girl with a septum piercing (who my partner said had an annoyed expression on her face once she'd seen us walk in - great start!) at 11:15. Archie (who was actually quite nice and friendly) took our order and we waited for drinks and food. The place was probably about half full.
Our drinks arrived in fair time (10 or so minutes), but our food took a long time. 35 minutes after our drinks arrived, our food came out (I take photos of everything so have the time stamps). Upon tucking in, my butter had LIQUIFIED and wasn't anywhere near solid, and my eggs were cold and rubbery. The plate had clearly been sat under a heat lamp for too long. My sausages I ordered on the side also hadn't turned up.
I got the blonde staff members attention and said I was missing my side of sausages, and she said she'd sort it. After a couple more mouthfuls, I decide my food is not right, and flag down Archie as the blonde girl is occupied, and apologise and say my eggs are cold and overcooked. They take it away to be remade. My partners meal is also lukewarm but he didn't want to cause a bigger fuss.
10-12 minutes after chasing up my sausages, they arrive. So now I'm just sat with 3 sausages in front of me and there's no communication between staff to logically wait until the eggs are remade and send it all together? A few minutes after, my eggs arrive (from a different third staff member not even being sure which table they were meant to be for - lack of communication, again), with more-solid butter, but no more cutlery. Luckily, my boyfriend only had a couple mouthfuls left of his food and I could use his cutlery. Eggs were still not as creamy as they were in Manchester, considering they're meant to be made with cream?... Still wasn't 100% happy with my second plate either, to be honest. It should be consistent between all branches.
After receiving the bill, I explained today was meant to be a special occasion and the experience wasn't great, and (for the first time IN MY LIFE) requested a small discount. Thankfully, my drinks were taken off the bill and Archie was apologetic, but what the hell was going on? Why did it take so long? Why was there no communication between the floor and kitchen staff?
I WORK in a cafe and if something had gone that wrong with an order I'd be offering partial refunds or something for free without being prompted.
Extremely disappointing experience, won't be returning and I felt so embarrassed I took him there for a special occasion for it to feel...
Read moreI was dissatisfied with almost everything, this was my first and sadly my last visit to this cafe.
One of the things that really surprised me was that the café didn’t have any ice so we couldn’t order any cold beverages even though three of us were craving cold drinks but since we got here and sat down we decided to let it slide and just order any warm drinks.
But we were shocked by the quality of the food it didn’t match the quality of the restaurants’ atmosphere, it was way below average.
The waffle 🧇: I could call this anything but a waffle it didn’t have the fluffy inside that puffs steam when you cut through it, but instead it was extremely dry and crumbly and it felt like eating leftover bread that was left out for a couple of days and also it was burnt from the other side and I honestly don’t think that’s acceptable.
The pancake 🥞: This was a 2/10 just plain bread, but shaped like a pancake.
The hot chocolate 🍫: The idea of melting a chocolate stick into “steaming hot milk” is a great idea but unfortunately it tasted like milk and not the authentic hot chocolate flavour, I know that hot chocolate differs from place to place but there are a few components that are essential for drinking a good hot chocolate one of them being the creamy texture which was unfortunately not found in this particular drink.
The cappuccino ☕️: The person in our group that ordered the cappuccino got a really bad stomach ache after this brunch and she said that it was a 3/10 a little below average.
The macchiato ☕️: This was the first time for this person to drink a hot macchiato, he was very disappointed that the place ran out of ice because his go to drink is an ice macchiato but anyways, he didn’t really like it and gave it a 5/10.
To sum up my long review, in my opinion I don’t think this cafe is worth trying, I didn’t enjoy the food, but maybe there are other thing s in the menu that might be...
Read moreThe food itself was not bad. Pretty authentic to actual North American breakfast to be honest, large portion sizes and decent enough tastewise. The reason I'm leaving a 1 star review is because of the service. We were left waiting for 45 minutes for even our drinks, when we did finally ask someone she was ridiculously dismissive and immediately just went "its a 25 minute wait on food" just assuming we were being unreasonable off the bat, without even asking how long we had been there. To top it off, after we told her we had been here 45 mins without even getting our drinks she said she'd go check into it. She then got distracted having a chat with one of her colleagues then just wandered off and forgot about us again. Had to get the manager to come over and finally sort it. It took another 25 mins for the food to arrive, but he did at least sort out our coffees. Then when we asked for the bill asked it to the manager, and he said he'd send someone over with it, she forgot again. Then we asked a second time. She went over to the computer, then got distracted, went to make someone elses drinks then just wandered off. Had to ask a third time to the manager again and he sorted the bill finally. I will say the manager is a decent person, and he knocked the coffees off the bill and took 20% off as well, so I dont blame him for the situation. Its just unfortunate that apparently all of the service staff working the tables seem to get really easily distracted and forget what theyre doing, and can also be fairly rude and dismissive as if us asking about where our food and drinks was after an 45 mins was some massive personal inconvenience that they shouldnt have to suffer. Overall I'd say dont risk this spot if you're...
