Horrendous food, horrendous customer service! Iāve never felt insulted like this anywhere before!
Me, my family and friends visited Mumtaz Leeds for my birthday meal and we were treated extremely poorly.
I called for the manager. Sameea Nawaz, as I wanted to make a complaint regarding the food. She approached us with a lot of attitude when I requested for her presence for my complaint. We made it very clear to here that we were not getting confrontational however, she began to start arguing with us.
I explained what the problem was with the food and she took my plate back to the chefās to identify the problem. She returned shortly after saying the food was absolutely fine. We explained to Sameea that the steaks had a smell and they were not good quality. Sameea clearly saw that we had not touched out steaks as they were revolting. Sameea returned to her senior for advice.
Sameea came back to our table shortly after and became extremely argumentative. She offered us free curries and even said to us she would pack the steaks up for us to take home however, due to the atmosphere of the situation we did not want to stay there any longer for free curries neither did we want to take the steaks home. We told Sameea to take the Steaks off the bill as we were not going to pay for food of such quality that in fact made one of us throw up. Sameea went to go get us the bill.
Sameea returned with the bill and told us the total was £288 and she was willing to take off £38 resulting in us paying £250. We were not happy with this and asked Sameea again to take all the Steaks off the bill. Sameea became confrontational and blatantly accused of ordering too many starters and filling ourselves up and not being able to have our mains. This was an extremely rude and insulting comment she made to us all.
I told Sameea that even some of the starters were not nice and had a smell coming from them. Another table besides us became involved as they complained of the exact same issues including the face that a hair was found in their food. Sameea argued with me saying why did I not say anything about the starters in the first place. I told Sameea that we ignored the fact that some of the starters had issues and gave the mainās a chance hoping the mains would be somewhat better. Sameea became frustrated and said Ā£250 was her final price. We all became silent as we were not satisfied.
Sameeaās rudeness began to show when she grabbed the bill, crossed out the Ā£288 and wrote Ā£250 next to it. Sameea left this bill on the table. Me, my family and friends were very unhappy and felt extremely uncomfortable at this point. Moments later, 2 take out bags came to our table with our leftover steaks. This was extremely imsulting. We left the bags on the table, gathered our belongings and went to the till.
We offer £200 between 7 adults and 3 children nothing more. We said to Sameea that her customer service was appalling, we felt insulted and she should be glad we are willing to pay some of it as we were ready to leave without paying at all. Sameea once again had to go into the back to ask her senior.
She returned and had to accept our offer
I have been to Mumtaz Leeds before and had really good experiences however after seeing the customer service portrayed by the manager and the insults we received I will never be visiting this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVenue has a wow factor when entering unfortunately the food was awful breakdown. Portion of samosas are from the frozen mini samosas Hamza/Shazam you get from the local supermarket and was charged Ā£4.50 very disappointing not as stating freshly cooked followed by the mix grill sheesh kebabs, chicken wings and lamb chops were good chicken tikka dry and bland and had the ready made samosas in a mix grill which all they had to do was fry them. We also ordered the famous speciality Mumtaz Grand taal platter Ā£60. The whole Balochi Sajji chicken was too dry and the Kabuli rice was horrible, which was the wrong rice with platter should have been pilau rice, veg pokaoras were burnt, the chappal kebabs overcooked and oily. Mains dishes lamb Karahi. chicken Karahi and keema Karahi dish were nice and the home style chips were good so was the paratha and naans overall not good experience and would not be going there again costing in all Ā£95.50 please see pics also were under cooked samosas, veg pakoras burnt chappal kebabs oily and been double fried. Walaikum salaam brother I read ur response, brother u need to take all reviews seriously you obviously have not read the whole review as you would not have commented that I said everything was bad READ THE REVIEW THROUGHLY IT IS IN SIMPLE ENGLISH. I made honest comments thatās what the reviews are Unfortunately It touched a nerve or 2 since u cannot take constructive criticism. Donāt you feel bad serving ready made samosas available from local Asian supermarkets as your own come letās be honest that is sub standard. Look I am from Birmingham where the standards are high so I know about good quality food, here are some more constructive criticism come to Birmingham to Khyber Pass on Alum Rock Road they will teach you how to make Chappal Kebabs and balochi sajji whole chicken and kabuli rice. Pictures donāt lie I request you look at them THROUGHLY and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter tonight's experience at Mumtaz, I'm compelled to share what can only be described as a masterclass in how NOT to run a restaurant.
The Timeline of Disappointment
Promised delivery: 45 minutes Actual delivery: 1.5 hours (double the promised time) Food quantity: Incomplete order missing a main dish Additional wait for missing item: Another 30 minutes Total time from order to complete meal: 2 hours What We Experienced
The food that finally arrived was not only late but incomplete. We sat there with partial meals while one person at our table had nothing to eat. When we inquired about the missing main dish, we were met with indifference rather than urgency or apology.
The service was essentially non-existent. No waitstaff checked on us during our extended wait. No one seemed to care that we were sitting there, hungry and increasingly frustrated.
The Manager's Response (Or Lack Thereof)
But perhaps most disappointing was the manager's reaction when we raised our concerns. Instead of acknowledging the clear service failures or offering any form of meaningful resolution, they displayed a level of indifference that was genuinely shocking. Their attitude suggested our experience was somehow our problem, not theirs.
The Real Issue
This isn't just about slow food or missing items, though those are unacceptable. This is about a fundamental lack of respect for customers and their time. When you promise something and fail to deliver, the bare minimum response should be acknowledgment and an attempt to make things right. Instead, we were made to feel like we were being unreasonable for expecting basic service standards.
To the Management
If you're reading this: your customers' time has value. Their money has value. Their decision to choose your restaurant over countless others deserves respect, not dismissal. Tonight, you failed on every level that matters.
Would I return? Absolutely not. Would I recommend this place? Only to people I don't like.
Save your time, save your money, and save yourself the frustration. There are restaurants in this city that actually care about their customersāMumtaz clearly isn't...
