Never bloody again! Waited 40 mins for a simple Pollo Salad, which I've ordered time and time again without any issues. My wife and I have been a regular at this spot for over 6 years, Somehow after 2 months of returning to Pizza Express for the first time in 2019 at Clarence Dock, I received the worst and most appalling service ever!
The usual waiters and manager whom I knew were nowhere to be seen. It's as if they were replaced by new management, that has literally ZERO customers service!
The waitress was lovely and clearly wasn't in charge, however, whenever she spoke to the woman that seemingly was the manager, this woman appeared to be very obstinate and unconcerned about the fact that a customer had to wait for an Exceeding 40 mins instead of a mere 15-20mins. I won't EVER be coming there again, you've ruined my experience and I'll be avoiding that particular site henceforth.
I explained several times that I was with a puppy and out of respect, I'm staying out with my pup. I'd wait like 10mins and go back inside hoping my order would be ready "this time" and yet again, it wasn't.
Each time, the waitress approached the "seeming manager" this manager appeared to rehash the same spiel unto the waitress, with a visible " I don't care" look & expression on her face
Eventually, after 40 mins of waiting, I courteously went back in again and told the male-waiter I'm cancelling the order, which was never even attempted at start. I walked out fuming!
The salad was my for wife who had just come out of a surgery and needed to eat a light meal. I suggested Pizza Express to which I now wholeheartedly regret! The "Express" as a modifier is laughable & should be stripped off that name!
The current management is poor, and unprincipled! I loath to ever step foot in that place again. Just piss-poor experience so far!
40mins for a takeaway, when it should have taken approximately 15-20mins. The vexation stems from the fact, that they knew I was still waiting and didn't even attempt to make an effort to fulfil my order so I could be on my way.

I’m only giving this 4 stars purely because it is a chain and the food has a specific type and standard that cannot be exceeded by a chefs initiative or creative flair. Saying that our entire party was surprised by how tasty and competently cooked our meal was. Admittedly we ate here out of necessity after visiting the royal armouries. We were holidaying in Whitby and had a considerable drive back after our superb visit to the museum. We went into the first place we found and that happened to be pizza express. I was dubious but ended up surprised by the quality of our dining experience. The calamari might have been shipped in frozen, I really cannot say, but it tasted good none the less. Tender and juicy and not remotely rubbery. My son who is the fussiest eater to have ever graced the planet loved his dough balls. The polenta chips were soft not gelatinous and the pizzas were thin based, seasoned beautifully and not smothered in an oil slick of over melted cheap cheese. I never ever order dessert but on this rare occasion happened to have the sticky toffee bundt cake. Packed with toffee and dates and light as a feather,..I finished the lot and that I promise you is as rare as a Tasmanian tiger. Everyone enjoyed their meal. It was convenient and tasty. Read moreI went on Saturday. Ordered pizza to go and my transaction declined in the first try. They said it was their machine's fault. Although the transaction was showing in my bank's app perfectly charged and I showed that to them. I was with my son and he was waiting to eat so I let them charge me again. This time (3.5 minutes later) the transaction went through fine. Same bank same card used. And yes I had plenty of funds in and I showed that to the store manager. To this point, 4 days later they haven't refund me for the first declined charged. So I paid for one pizza £30.40! I spoke with bank today, almost a week later and they can't do anything unless the store releases the amount. Also almost a week later I am still double charged! And the bank confirmed that the first transaction was fine in the first place and no second one needed. The worst service ever. They can solve this easily by sending an email to the bank to release the declined transaction. But they are not doing it. The bank is not releasing until they do this. So again I paid £30.40 for one margarita! Also the service was so slow that didn't make sense. I regret going there and I would never visit the store again. And is not just me.
