Visited yesterday for lunch, l had reserved a table two. On arrival l told the girl at the door that someone would be joining us in about an hour, to be told “ I’m sorry you only have a table for two” l thought fair enough. On the way to our table we walked past many free tables and they stayed that way in the nearly two hours we were there. Our table was in the corner where we were close to a table of six and a table of two, when there were so many tables free in the main area.Surely we should have been spaced out a bit more. Getting served was an ordeal, stand here to order, stand here to pay, l understand you have to be careful in these trying times but l think it can be done more efficiently. In order for me to order l had to walk to the opposite side of the bar potentially walking past many customers, although like l said there were no customers in the main area. Your bar is big enough l think to have two ordering/ pay points.I was at the bar with only one customer in front of me and the barmaid served me before the customer in front of me. I have worked in hospitality for many years both in the UK and NY, this should not happen. Also l noticed when the menus were picked up they were put back on the bar on top of all the other menus, potentially cross contaminating. Surely disposable Menues would be better, l work in a primary school and we have to clean all the books the kids bring back to school and leave the outside to air for 72hours. A friend of mine was there the week before and she said the ordering at the bar was chaos, and she would not be returning during Covid. We were meant to be going to the Palace next weekend bout have...
Read moreWe dropped in for one as a convenient meeting point, as our group were about to go their different ways and thi ls had a carpark (£2 per hour) and was well sited for a short walk to the train station.
A good range of beers, plenty of seating for a late Saturday afternoon, and they were still serving food, although we never ate. They had both Landlord and Tribute on I was in heaven. Beer was very well looked after and tasted sweet and fresh.
The interior was a bit faux antique. The tiles were vinyl but printed to look like worn victorian ones. Very dark oak-stained walls but in fairness it all created a pleasing antique feel, in keeping with the many old-style pubs in Leeds.
We never ate, but the person who recommended it to us said it was always packed with families dining on Fridays, and she'd been with plenty others who'd eaten here with apparent satisfaction.
I'd visit again, especially as it's so close to both the city centre (10 min walk) and the docks...
Read moreBeen out for a walk and called for something to eat and drink. Should have seen the signs when waiting to be served an a lady brought her steak sandwiches back because they could not chew them. Firstly the lady behind the bar put through the wrong order. Luckily the "chef" came out to query it. We ordered 2 southern fried chicken fillets in a burger bun with twice cooked chips for each of us. In this deal for £1-50 you could add a drink except the pumps with the beers for this deal were not working and nothing else was offered. We were told that we were lucky it was Monday as there was £1 off a pint. The chicken burgers came and although they were cooked ok they were not and never had been southern fried coated. The twice cooked chips were nothing but bog standard frozen chips. Gave 1 star because the beer was good but if there was £1 off a pint that would make it nearly £4 a pint. If you can afford the beer go for it but give the...
