A wonderful old Tudor building with stone floors in the heart of Leeds that is failing to realise it's potential. Fantastic roof terrace looking on to adjacent park and church grounds. Shows the footy regularly, and has free pool tables on a Sunday. Sounds like heaven, doesn't it? Sadly, the bar staff I'm the majority need a massive kick up the arse. You're lucky to grab their attention, as the puddle about updating their music selections on the laptop behind the bar. When you do get served, the hand pumped stuff is often terribly dodgy. Clearly there is no one on site that knows how to treat casks properly, which is a worry, because they do have a lot of decent ales on. They have a pizza oven and do some basic overpriced sides as well- again, a lazy, low cost attitude to food, so, it's okay, but hardly worth the money at £11-12 for a pizza. Sad, as before the place was taken over, it served amazing food, as a...
Read moreStumbled across this pub on a Sunday morning and enjoyed a few drinks and pool. A lovely pub but the out side is ruined by tacky advertising on the front of a lovely building. Staff weren't sure of the buildings history which is a shame as it has the look of tudor styling on the front. The pool tables are pay by the hour which is great but unfortunately at £12 an hour I think it was time to spend some money on new baize and cues. The lack of attention to detail gives all the signs of chain pub management and while the website it all flash and glossy, the gloss wears off very quickly and needs maintaining. We went to go back on Monday to show it to someone in the group the pub but the pub was closed but had times on the front saying it was open at 15:00 on Monday so we went back at 15:30 to fi d it still closed, never thought of checking Website as this states...
Read moreWe had our work Christmas party here. We had a good night but I'm going to have to mark it down because of a few things. Unisex toilet with no lock on door. Faulty hand driers. To get to actual toilet we had to go down two flights of stairs. There was only one member of bar staff on for us which meant a huge cue for drinks, card machine stopped working after so long so we had to go downstairs to pay with card. It sort of felt like we were an inconvenience to them. There was no communication as to when the food was ready, it was just put out on a table and to top it off there were about 3 different parties on the same night so everyone got confused and walked through each others party lots of times. This caused some trouble towards the end - after a few people had been on the 'merry Christmas juice' I feel like this could have been easily avoided by signs and...
