Edit, decided to give this another chance. Came here for supper, food was good, but not as good as great Horton road. Service wasnt up to scratch , but after some communication via the contact below. I accept it's down to miscommunication to not understanding what apna means .
After the follow up I've had, I will give Shimlas Leeds another chance
. . . . . .
Just come back from the Leeds branch to what should have been a great experience as you would get at the Bradford branch. But instead we have left disappointed and won't be returning to the Leeds branch despite it being newly opened. What Shimlas is known for is great food and service, yet it took one waitress to kill that experience.
Looked at menu, and placed our order , we wanted to order lamb on the bone to which I was told to order the mutton on the bone as they don't sell lamb on the bone. The waitress then changed the story to sold out. After leaving I now wonder was it because the lamb on the bone takes half an hour and they wanted to leave work on time???
We ordered chicken tikka leg, chicken wings, curries few sides, two different mocktails and soft drinks.
This is where the service was ruined. The waitress came with our mocktails and handed it over, 2 raspberry mojito. We said we ordered one raspberry mojito and one strawberry daquiri. She said that is what they are. I said they look exactly the same. She insisted it was one raspberry and one strawberry and that is what was given to get. I said the strawberry daquiri doesn't have mint in. She insisted it was and handed the drink back to me which then spilt over me and the table and she stood there watching. I asked for tissues, and she went to get us tissues... Only we saw her go to another table to clear up and never came back. This isn't good. A guy came with our food and I asked to speak to the manager and asked for tissues. The manager came and I asked him what drinks we have... He said he's not sure but mocktails. He asked what's wrong so we told him... Before he was called over we had tried the drinks and they was the same. He later confirmed they was the same drinks and the waitress wrote two raspberry mojito. I understand it's nearly opened, the manager said the staff are still training...Ok understand, but if your staff is wrong, go and check and don't disagree with the customer or force it onto us.
Food came, meat on the bone was warm, not hot off the grill, chicken leg was very very slightly pink / raw by the bone. Everything else was very good to Shimlas standard.
This one experience of bad service and bad attitude from one staff member has killed the experience for us. When you work for Shimlas, your regular customers will know and expect great experience and great service.
Also, please please please clean your plates properly, they was covered in grease and stains.
Sorry Leeds branch but Bradford we are...
Read moreVisited with my wife for the first time as we drove past it a lot and thought it looked nice from the outside. Sadly, the inside decor doesn't match the outside. It's OK, nice and clean enough, nothing special, but I guess it's not trying to be anything fancy. We ordered the naga wings and wings in cheese sauce and the donner kebab in naga creamy sauce. We ordered the donner as we thought the wings would be just a starter as the prices were cheap for 8 wings with chips. We were told the wait would be 25 mins for the food, which at 6 pm and a pretty empty venue was reasonable. After waiting 45 mins, we had to chase up the food. The food came, and the wings' meals were bigger than expected, more like main courses. They looked good and tasted even better. I would say they were some of the best wings we had ever eaten. They were huge and so crispy, and the sauces there were covered in were yummy. The portions were so big we didn't even get to eat the donner meal, so we took that home. The thing I would change is that there was too much sauce. They should put the sauce on the wings and leave the chips as they are. Otherwise, all you taste is the sauce. We tried the donner meat, which was nice enough, same issue though as there was so much sauce that's all you could taste. I'm guessing if I wasn't so full and just ate the donner, it would have been yummy with salad and naan. All said, I will definitely be back for them wings as they were gorgeous. I'll just ask for no sauce on the chips and hope they can deliver. The mixed grill is the one I want to try next. The curries people had looked OK. I don't order curries as we cook good curries at home. Wings and grilled food are what I can't be bothered making. Go on, give this place a try! Won't cost you the earth, and there will be something you'll enjoy. The waitresses were...

After reading some glowing reviews, we decided to give this place a try during one of our regular visits to Leeds. I’ve always said, when a restaurant tries to do too much with a massive menu, the quality is bound to suffer and sadly, I was right.
We ordered two mixed grills, a lamb handi, and tandoori rotis. The waitress, who was polite and helpful throughout, did warn us that the grill would take around 30–35 minutes. True to her word, it arrived after the expected wait — but as they say, good things come to those who wait... except not this time.
The mixed grill was underwhelming. One seekh kebab, one chicken leg, a few pieces of boti and chicken cuts, all quite average. The only standout were the lamb chops, but not in a good way. Honestly, I think Gandhiji’s slipper might’ve been more tender than those chops. How did these make it past the kitchen pass without a basic tenderness check.
For the price, the meat on the sizzler simply wasn’t justified. The portion size was disappointing, and the taste didn’t make up for it.
The lamb handi was okay, mildly spiced with a decent flavor but certainly nothing to write home about. And then came the tandoori roti. What a shame. It looked and tasted like the chef was either too distracted scrolling on TikTok or just didn’t care. Only cooked on one side, as my photo clearly shows.
All in all, a very average experience. The only saving grace? The front-of-house team — friendly, polite, and professional.
One star — and it’s for...
