While I was living in Leeds this place helped me to give the feeling of being in India. The place is very close to the city centre. Not very far from the market place. Remember to reserve early. Or else you might need to wait for more than 45 mins. Especially in the weekends and any occasions. I haven't seen any Indian restaurant filled with so many foreigners having typical Indian food. I was really amazed. Twice I went with my foreign friends and they really liked it very much. The south Indian food is simply great. The Keralian fish was awesome cooked with coconut. Also you can get alcohol as well. The price was around 40 gbp for two people and that was in 2020. The behaviour of the staffs were really nice and didn't have to wait too long after we ordered the food. The ambience is so Indian. In the upstair there's enough space but personally I prefer the downstair. If a fan of Indian cricket then can see the memories of Virat and Ganguly inside the restaurant. Both of them came here during the 2019 ODI World Cup. Every taste was very authentic and has pleasant Keralian taste. The aroma of food made me think as if I was in Kerala. During busy times you might need to rush or else take time , chat and enjoy the food. Thanks for making my time in Leeds a very special one. I still miss the food from the superb restaurant. Cheers!

I stopped by without a booking but they had a table for me. The lunch menu was simple and spot on with something for everyone to choose from. The table menu was a bit overwhelming for me with too many options. I liked their drinks menu, well laid out and quite a few options for any palate. I ordered a lamb/mutton dish and chose the flaky bread called parotta, instead of rice, to go with it. Although I wouldn’t call it “authentic Kerala” the food was served piping hot and was very tasty. The portion was just right for anyone with a good appetite. I would have it again. I then ordered a peculiar dessert called vattayappam. It was served with good quality vanilla icecream. This is something I would go back to this restaurant for. The vattayappam wasn’t freshly made as I would expect but it was a tasty treat that went really well with the ice-cream and the Armagnac I ordered as an aperitif. The Armagnac was served how it should be and kudos to these guys for getting it right when popular pubs and bars throw in ice cubes even after I ask for it to be served neat. Overall I had a good dining experience at this restaurant and I hope to go back there with friends and family.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the Google Community and making my first review special and memorable. This is a reply to your justification on my review that I posted and I also don’t have the time and need to reply to you, but this is for all the other people who are planning or wanting to come to your restaurant for some good time and to help them not to end up like us. I do really appreciate that you have squeezed me in from 6.30 to 8.00 pm on that day from the bottom of my heart. Even though as per your claim that I have “begged” to one of your staff for a table, still it doesn’t cut out the fact that we are guests in your restaurant and have the right to receive the same treatment as the others who booked “months ago”. We also pay the same amount as others and also pay for the time we spent in your restaurant and yet it is so disturbing that we have to face the mistreatment by your staff. I do realise it is a busy restaurant and we have got a time frame from 6.30 to 8.00 pm. But there is two ways to convey the message to hurry up to order the main course. One in a polite way and the other is your waiter’s way and I am totally against the second. We have come to your restaurant to have some good time with family, and getting mistreated because we “begged” to get a seat is totally unacceptable. And on the swearing part, I have also got plenty of friends and we also call each other by names and all. But we will only do that considering the environment around us especially when there is elderly and young children and I think we all are matured enough to realise that unlike you just doing that in a busy restaurant with all the people in it assuming that the people around you won’t even understand. If you don’t want to change your ideology , its totally upto you and I respect your decision. Most of the restaurants when they get a 1 star review, they like to learn from that and make necessary changes accordingly unlike you, who tries posting arrogant comments with the confidence that no one else is above you and claiming all the negative reviews are fake. Giving an honest review is not always fake. You have told me all the incidents that happened that day and you clearly know what was the real problem. The fact that you don’t even accept and realise your mistake blows me away. How can you justify that being the “Best Restaurant in Town”?. Continue cooking more “flavourful” dishes and “stories” so that you can degrade an honest review and question our credibility. If it helps your business out, it’s absolutely fine for me and continue justifying your mismanagement and poor behaviour. On the last note, if I were to give a piece advice to you it will be “treat others the same way you want them to treat you”.

Once again a restaurant that has received rave reviews from others but unfortunately didn't live up to my expectations 😔 very disappointed with the menu and vegetarian choice. I had Chilli Paneer starter (£8.25) which was nice enough but nothing special, I then had Masala Dosa (£9.25) which would have been nice as an accompaniment rather than a stand alone main course, as it left me still hungry. We also chose Thenga Chora rice (£3.95) made with coconut, white lentils and cashew nuts and Appam (£2.60) a fermented rice pancake and coconut milk which we've never had before and was OK but a little tasteless. My friends had 2 prawn dishes; Konju Manga Curry (£18.25) and Meen Koottan (£17.90) which they enjoyed. However, all three of us had stomach upsets later that evening, one of my friends actually threw up in the toilets before she left. I'm not saying it was the food but she reacted immediately after eating it and i was nauseous about an hour later. I just been looking at the menu and wish I'd read it prior to going as there's some tasty sounding vegetarian dishes, I must admit I ordered in a hurry without reading properly so I think I should give it another try.

Enjoyable food at an exorbitant cost with some of the worst service I’ve experienced. On value, I counted exactly 5 pieces of chicken in my dish, which was £15.95, and don’t forget rice or paratha is extra (about £4). Equivalent of a little more than a chicken thigh and a paratha for £20. I asked for a table for one, and was asked how fast I could finish. 5 tables of 11 I could see had customers. Seemed annoyed by my order (menu said it was the most common order, kozhi curry, no idea why that’s a problem), and after a fuss about how long it took to eat, I waited over 10 minutes just to receive my bill. Poor, for a restaurant charging this much to be this aggressive and unwelcoming. The menu focused on the uniqueness of the food and the authenticity. Marrying into a South Indian family, I’ve eaten South Indian food several times a week for ten years. I wouldnt say this was nearly as authentic as either the food we eat or other South Indian restaurants I’ve been to - the price point being almost double most restaurants, I was really very disappointed. The price of the food and the lack of quality in service really clouds this experience.

We do love a curry, so we were delighted to celebrate Tharavadu’s 10th year in Leeds City Centre on the 2nd June. Serving authentic South Indian dishes cooked to the finest standard, this popular restaurant gives you a real taste of Kerala. [AD|INVITE] To mark their anniversary, Tharavadu invited a select group of guests and treated them to a welcome drink, special set menu and live entertainment including music, flame breathing and cutting of a special made cake by the City’s Lord Mayor, which we all got a piece of too. The passion that the talented chefs and friendly staff have here comes across in the superb food and warm atmosphere. The restaurant staff are a real family that welcome all who want to enjoy some South Indian food. We got to enjoy; Chilli Paneer Meen Chuttathu (Fish) Kerala Kozhi Curry (Chicken) Aadu Cheera Mappas (Lamb) Karala Paratha and rice Semiya Payasam Pistachio Kulfi All food was delicious and we ate every last crumb. The menu here has an array of amazing dishes with starters costing around £8 and mains around £16-£20. Opening Times; Mon – Fri : 5 – 10 pm, Sat : 12- 10 pm & Sun : 12 – 8 pm
