The Head of Steam Headingley — Restaurant in Leeds

I took my nephews here today as i have eaten at a few slap n pickle places over the last few years and have always been a great experience unlike todays. Upon arrival we ordered drinks all good here ,then asked to order food and the menu was limited due to Bank Holiday madness ,again that was fine and understandable although it is now tuesday and orders do arrive today as i am also in this trade and have been for 30 years ,so all should be fresh and stocked up ? , ok so the food came fairly quickly ,chips hot ,light n crispy beautiful ! , cheese bites slightly soggy as would be better to serve the sauce at the side so they stay crispy as some people prefer them as they are, hot n crispy ,and finally the burger ... patties were way way thinner than normal and tasted sour ... overall i felt the chef hadn`t placed an order last night and had no produce so made use of what he had left from the weekend ,anyway this needs investigating by slap n pickle because head of steam aint holding your standards! i wont be...

Needed somewhere easy & informal to meet the parents as they were driving from Cumbria to Bucks through mega traffic, but with decent food as it was a birthday meal as well as the first time we'd seen each other in nearly two years!!

The Head of Steam was perfect!! The food and the ale were both absolutely top class, service was friendly (actually friendly... not plastic 'we're paid to be friendly" friendliness), with just the right balance of banter and attentiveness! With a minor game on that evening at Headingley Stadium, the atmosphere was lively but in no way too boisterous or aggressive. Just great staff, accommodating a great clientele, with great food and drink, in a great setting.

Highly recommended... we'll be back, and bringing others, as I needed a new favourite place to take visiting family for a bite to eat after our old fave had to close early in the pandemic... and I think this'll...

Delicious food with plenty of vegan options. Really filling as well. I got the vegan club pizza and it was genuinely amazing! The atmosphere was lovely too, and they had a really good playlist on. Free games too which was fun! Service was a bit slow at times, but I don't mind really as it's a nice place to chill and at leaat it means the food isn't just microwaved like some places.
