Congratulations on the relocation! The new venue in Headingley is beautiful and more capacious than the old place.
I was greeted warmly by staff, on entry, being remembered from a prior visit, which was heart warming.
Quickly seated, I ordered a hugely refreshing and unusual anise-flavoured drink, mixed tall with alcohol free prosecco, from a satisfyingly large menu of non-alcoholic options.
The food menu is printed fresh each day, which suggests there is a healthy rotation of dishes; locals will not get bored with regular visits!
The waiting staff were prompt, attentive and informative, clearly knowing what the menu items were and how they tasted. Having heard them run through all the options for that day I honestly regretted not having more stomachs, to be able to do justice to the entire menu. What I did select, though, was:-
Devilled eggs, as an amuse: creamy and not overly spicy,
Courgette on butterbean purée, with a moat of basil 'jus'. So beautifully presented. An elegant and complexly flavoured small dish, designed as a veggie starter, but could be a main, if you were not feeling too hungry and paired it with the in-house baked farmhouse bread.
Main was the salmon steak, on a bed of spinach, with anchovy, sorrel and broad beans. Impeccably cooked, the fish was just barely cooked through on the inside, still attractively pink, but not underdone, whilst also having a crackly, crispy skin, with a smoky, roast taste. All the ingredients worked harmoniously to make a delicious eating experience.
Paired with the fish, I ordered side bowls of roast new potatoes, rolled in salt, and buttery carrots, roast with thyme, neither of which I could finish, but that the staff were happy to wrap for me to take home.
Finished with a slice of the restaurant's delicious raspberry frangipane and best clotted cream I've had in a while; and a fresh black filter coffee.
A great evening all round. Shall definitely return whenever I...
Read moreWe had been to Swine that dines last year before it got its new home at swine Bistro We were delighted and comforted by the food and we couldn’t wait for it to reopen its doors this year. Stu and Jo’s food is the food that is cooked with love and all you feel afterwards is this sheer sense of happiness and comfort. We were so thrilled that we asked if they could cater for a small group of 10 people at our home -it was our wedding. Possibly the smallest wedding party ever.Jo worked out this excellent menu with a mix of veg and meat/fish which was incredible. It was the best food our friends and family had had at a party. Leave aside the food, they delivered it to our home with a present from the team! That is a lovely gesture. Our heartfelt thanks to the team for making our special day even more memorable. The current restaurant is considerably bigger and they have an extremely busy Saturday despite which they didn’t hesitate to take our order. I am surprised how they managed to make time in their schedule to personally deliver the food to us and cook a whole extensive menu amidst running a restaurant. Every single item on the menu starting from the garlic croutons, the picked cucumber, olives, cod, duck confit , hispy cabbage, ragu, polenta, the butter, sourdough etc etc and the 4 large cakes they baked were delicious!! I could go on and on with the compliments!!Heart felt thanks to you and we intend to see...
Read moreThis place isn’t bad, it’s not even good, it’s bloomin’ brilliant. We booked an early dinner as we were going to the theatre afterwards. Shown to our table and the menu was explained to us - a relatively short list of four starters and the same number of mains. IMO, that’s great; do a few things well rather that loads poorly is my maxim and it is clearly theirs as well. We had a couple of g’n’t’s whilst we chose - fish soup for me and venison terrine for her ladyship followed by duck suet pudding for her and belly pork for me. As we weren’t in a particular rush, we asked for a leisurely service, which we received.. The food was exceptional - and that’s not hyperbole - great portion size, tasty, well seasoned, hot. Limited but well chosen wine list - we had the Tempranillo, which was nice. We were served by both the lady who I understand is co-owner and Keisha, who is absolutely lovely. If I’m being really picky, the toilet isn’t fantastic. But it’s an old building and they are clearly limited on space and what they can do in an old cellar space. But don’t let that put you off. Visit this place, because the food is great, the people are lovely and the...
