We booked for the carvery today. When we first walked in it was extremely busy but as weâd booked just found our table with our name on it and sat down. We had booked for six people but due to last minute work commitments only 4 of us went, which was lucky as thereâs no way 6 of us could have squeezed on that tiny table! We then went to the bar for drinks and had to ask the staff how the carvery worked, as it is quite a small set up you wait for the chef to come and tell your table when itâs your turn to go up. 45 minutes later we went up to the bar to ask if weâd been forgotten about and then an hour later we went up to get our food. We noticed on the table it did say it was booked for another family an hour and a half after our booking! The meat on the carvery was lovely and a generous cut, Yorkshires were nice but all the veg had clearly been rushed and wasnât cooked properly with broccoli and carrots all being rock hard. Ten minutes prior to our hour and a half being up we were told by staff that the next family for the table had arrived, thankfully we had finished eating but no time for dessert! Staff were all rushed off their feet clearly and not good at communicating with each other as one table sat down still with the previous familyâs plates all piled up and this wasnât cleared for over 15 minutes! Definitely needs more staff and better organisation! Probably wonât...
Read moreThe food was really good, I must say, and they did a good job of making sure there was enough food to cover everyone. The rating is because of the execution. I'd eat here again as a smaller party.
We were a large group and I called ahead to check if that would be ok and was reassured that they could cater for big groups.
I called on behalf of someone in our party and was told twice that the football would be on in the tap room, it wasn't and we were told that they tried to call back but didn't have a number (despite having my booking?)
Then we arrived and the table was set for about half the number of people so we had to reshuffle the adjacent tables and collect our own chairs. The staff were nice and tried to be helpful but it seemed as though something got lost in communication during the booking process and/or set up which made for a somewhat stressful arrival with 4 hungry children and a new born (also information I gave...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic carvery, best around! Such a lovely cozy and welcoming dining area to eat with the family. Everything feels relaxed, yet well organised (not a messy free for all with long queues like some carverys). The staff are so friendly, really make you feel at home. Dog friendly too, with lots of well behaved and happy looking doggies. Last but not least, the food is so well cooked and served fresh with pride, top quality range of meat, veg and Yorkshire puds! The parsnips are to die for and my daughter said the mash is the best she has ever had. All this for under a tenner a head. 100%...
