My wife and I stayed here in one of the rooms. Very clean. Decor is a bit old fashioned but it's obviously been done to retain the character of the period property. The food is excellent and there's plenty of it. One evening I had pie & mash. I was stuffed at the end of the meal. On this particular night the place was packed. The staff were working their backsides off, but they remained very courteous and service was prompt and friendly. They have some good beers and they also do coffee and hot chocolate, which suits my wife. The bar is a typical 'proper' pub style, no games machines or TVs. There are other eating areas, away from the main bar, if you want it a quieter. There's a large covered outdoor area. It has a large screen TV but it's not intrusive, and I imagine it will be great for major events. It has an events room. These events don't normally go on late, but may be a problem if you want an early night. Best to ask if there's anything going on when you book, so you can get a room at the other end of the building. There's a carpark across the road and a market...
Read moreAnother brilliant visit to the Black Horse pub! Their Sunday lunches really are the best around, everything is always so fresh and delicious and presented well. Service is fast, but there can sometimes be a wait particularly given how busy Sundays are, but that’s to be expected. Being local, I visited not longer after opening last year and it’s just gone from strength to strength, which is a credit to everyone involved. It’s the ‘go to’ place in Otley for great ales, amazing food and even better staff, all of which are very attentive and friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them, particularly Beth & Louie who epitomise this. The manageress, Jen, leads by example, setting high standards and is always so accommodating and welcoming. Otley was crying out for a local warm family orientated pub and this place delivers in the bucketload. They put on great events and live music and I’m excited to see this place continue to grow and becoming an even bigger asset to...
Read moreFor many years the Black Horse has stood proud on its corner in the centre of Otley. Imposing from the outside and full of architectural delight once you enter via the tiled foyer and on through the doors, this hostelry will not disappoint.
There is a small step at the front which makes pushchair and wheelchair access difficult but an entrance from the rear courtyard, down the right hand side of the building, gives excellent access.
Once inside you will wonder at the decor and begin to appreciate that this is a major part of Otley's rich history.
Jess and her staff have recently taken over the premises and transformed the atmosphere with their warm welcome. A good range of drinks are complimented by a very tasty menu board choice which changes regularly.
Visit here once and it will become your regular...
