Wow, the vegan Kare Burosu Ramen was an incredible letdown! I'm a truly gutted and unsatisfied vegan, this was really really poor at best. The ramen was beyond bland, super gross dirty dish water ish and the stingiest portions of tofu I've ever seen. A nice chilled vibe and clean modern eatery makes the place an always go-to for me and a purpose to actually eat here when on trips to the UK to be honest. This visit has totally changed my perspective and reflection. Wagamamas is NORMALLY awesome, love the style, efficiency, service and delicious menu which caters a great amount of pan Asian fusion dishes for vegans, veggies etc. I'm additionally reviewing this joint lower as service was super slow, unwelcoming and unattentative even for basics like extra chillis, water during quiet periods which was frustrating and felt like a chore to the staff who love to play on their tablets. I would love if Wagamamas can invest in good reusable chopsticks (I ended up using my own) to help prevent unnecessary recycling and the single use ones are garbage. Take advantage of the yum free green tea! If you can actually manage to get served one before you finish your food. Avoid this branch at all costs imo.

Have not been to a Wagamama’s for the longest time but decided this time to try. When taking orders, we found the writing of order numbers on our placemats to be a bit weird. The food was ok, nothing special - unfortunately the gyoza’s weren’t the best. The gyoza skin isn’t quite akin to the authentic dumpling skin and the fillings are all very ‘fusion’ inspired. I had the grilled duck donburi, which was presented well, though the flavours of the teriyaki just ended up being too sweet with not enough of the ginger twang you usually get from teriyaki sauce. The biggest let down was payment. You have to scan a QR code to pay; in an area of Trinity Walk where for some reason, the network is horrible. After faffing around with the online system, it turns out the waiter who seated us wrote the wrong table number down, so time was wasted just figuring out how to pay. Ended up just doing it over the till like you normally would. A weird addition that adds no efficiency to whatsoever.

To summarise - cataclysmic. Staff need training in grace and decorum. Usually have a great experience at Wagamama but not at Leed’s Trinity. Attitude, eye rolling and a serious lack of empathy from the staff. £8 for a bao bun drenched in mayo is criminal. The Katsu was congealed and as for the yaki (yucky) soba - lukewarm and lacking flavour. So flavourless we were tempted to test for COVID as taste buds were picking up NOTHING. Had to drench in soya sauce in search for an ounce of flavor. Wagamama Leeds Trinity should attack a clear gap in the market and start doubling up as a crèche - screaming children everywhere. The piercing screams were allegorical of my internal consciousness throughout this horrifying experience. We were not accommodated with our request to sit outside and so were shackled to our awful table. Literally and metaphorically left with a bad taste in our mouths.

I had a terrible time unfortunately and had to leave before even having anything to eat because of the service received.

Upon arriving at the restaurant I asked for a tucked away spot because of my own anxiety reasons which we were kindly given and I appreciate this.

Later on we asked about allergens and perhaps I came off as rude to the server but I was just trying to be direct as the person I was with had a serious food allergy. I was concerned because we were told “most of it is dairy free” I was worried because we received no allergens guide for our peace of mind, just that the manager will tell us if it is safe or not. We’ve been told this at an entirely different place and it was not safe and she ended up very sick. So we were concerned that is all.

I requested a pot of tea which I found out they do not do, only cups. I had no knowledge these were free so I cancelled them.

A different waitress brought the drinks to the table , and as she was placing green tea down I explained I had cancelled this because I originally wanted a pot but they didn’t have it. ( I have no idea this tea is free).

The waitress ( red/orange hair in a pony tail with relatively short ish stature with almost no makeup working at the time of 4:00-5:00 on the 30th of October) then snaps at me as I explain my cancellation and says she can just put it in a pot. I explain further which is hard for me as at this point as I am very anxious, she snapped again and winced and frowned her face and said in a very mean and sarcastic tone “what do you mean”. I feel extremely uncomfortable now and upset.

I call over the manager to explain and I feel like I’m on the verge of tears at this point as I find this very overwhelming for me. I had to hold my hands in order to not shake but tried my best to remain and look composed.

I have anxiety so maybe I came across a little monotone but I was just trying to make sure my sister was safe to eat safely. I raised my hands to get attention as I have issue raising my voice for attention currently so perhaps the staff viewed this as rude, I was just nervous to yell for people.

I’m sure other people will feel ok but just know if you struggle with social anxiety or adhd or autism. Someone who is very hostile does work here.

I am not an unkind person to severs and always tip well and I understand this time of year is hard for restaurants but I am also having a hard time and just wanted to have a nice time in a restaurant with my sister.

I would like to thank one waitress who came over who was shorter with round glasses and with dark hair and pink and purple streaks. I don’t know your name but you are very kind and made us feel at ease while speaking to us so thank...

We arrived with a small queue of one couple in front of us. It was a Wednesday evening and they appeared low staffed for a quiet evening - understandably.

Unfortunately that was not the case. It seemed quite busy.

We were seated at the ‘dead’ table at the entrance. We have been visiting Wagamamas since it opened and have never seen anybody at that first, long table. But we only ever eat there at a weekend - its busiest time.

But, the two of us (on a Wednesday) were seated there.

As we were seated, we immediately knew we would not be served quickly. The waiter who seated us, told us that the QR pay method was not available.

Did not bode well.

I went to the toilet and my wife outlined that there is no need to worry as we will not be asked for our order (such cynicism!). I actually used the less-abled toilet as it was free and nobody was wishing to use it. It had no toilet paper, no hand paper and the hand dryer was not working. I drew this to the attention of the team. I returned to our table and my wife had still not been asked for drinks or the basics. she went to the toilet. Alas, nobody came anywhere near us to ask for a drink or anything else. I did the usual of an over-exaggerated-head hopping to attract the attention of a server. It seemed there were only three people across the whole restaurant and it was rammed. Really felt sorry for them. They were far too busy and could not meet the demand. I spoke to a server so that we could ask for a manager and the manager was organising the Deliveroo orders. I shared my feelings and she outlined that someone was dealing with the toilet situation and I apologised as this now meant there was one server less on the shop floor. This issue should have been sorted and noticed beforehand. Made it clear that it was a bad, bad service - not good. After 30mins of being ignored, we left. Ended up going to Bundobust. Served within 2 minutes. Brilliant service and...

Atmosphere: 5/5 The atmosphere was super nice and we enjoyed the table dividers. This was probably one of the best things about wagamama.

Menu Items: 3/5 The menu had a great variety of items that looks quite tasty, unfortunately they don't live up to how they sound.

Blueberry Spice Juice: 5/5 Definitely recommend the juice. Everything was balanced well with a little ginger spice which was pleasant. Juice isn't something anyone can mess up.

Vegan "Chicken" Buns: 0/5 The chicken buns lacked veggies compared to the picture. They were dry and flavourless as well. For something like this, I'd expect something slightly more saucy and flavourful; not the sauce cooked off into a dry vegan meant substitute.

Miso Soup: 4/5 The miso soup was flavourful and contained a good amount of tofu and seaweed. The pickles were flavoured correctly and definitely recommended to eat with the broth since it can be a stronger flavour for some.

Vegan "Chicken" Ramen: 1/5 The vegan "chicken" would have been better as tofu. I added the vegan egg to the ramen because, you know ramen... The "chicken" got soggy quickly and made for an unpleasant texture. The noodles were mediocre at best being quite a store bought generic. The best part of the whole ramen was the chili sauce, broth, and veggies (bok choi, corn, green onion). The egg added to the ramen was and turned into gross mush of a thick coconut oil substance with some strange sriracha dressing.

Vegan "No Duck" Donburi 2/5 The "duck" was fantastic, it had a strong flavour, and tasted great, but that's about where that ends. All I could taste in every mouthful was cilantro/coriander, I still don't know what the kimchi or the veggies tasted of. The "egg" that came with it was disgusting. The whole dish was disappointing asides from the first bite of the duck.

Overall 1/5. Would I come here again? No, the atmosphere, miso, and juice would not be enough to have us...
