Firstly the staff were very friendly and apologetic for the wait which I was more than happy with as it was busy. We were first seated at a very small table for two at the top of the stairs but it turned out to be in the doorway to the toilets and four legs can’t fit under the one table when you’re on a corner so we were offered a bigger table when it became available. Only thing was it hadn’t been wiped down and was covered in crumbs from the last person. The cushion on the chair had given up on life so I found myself sitting on what felt like a seat frame. Would have happily have paid more for the full English if it had black pudding and hash browns or maybe if the bacon wasn’t so hard to cut or chew but the salted caramel milkshake was very nice. The biggest thing that stuck in my mind was the dust. The dust on the bannister. The dust on the window frames and the dirty windows. I know windows can be hard to keep clean in a city but couldn’t the inside have been done? Same to be said for the toilet with its manky pipework. Maybe it’s intentional like a “Dust through the ages” sort of history lesson but for me at least, I like a clean toilet. It’s a very old building with a lot of history but it looks like the cleaner is a part of...
Read moreWe stopped here at the recommendation of the woman at The Mouse House across the lane. I wish I’d had more time to explore, maybe go upstairs, because everything was beautiful and delicious.
I was there with my husband and father-in-law who don’t necessarily appreciate the nicer things (like a proper tea service) but we all had their paninis which were very good. I was excited to see the use of Brie, as it’s one of my favorite cheeses, and they weren’t stingy with it.
My FIL uses a walker and they were very helpful and kind to help him fold and put it out of the way. The street level dining room is cozy and you’ll want everything that is ordered while you’re there.
Make sure to save room for cake! I wanted a piece of...
Read moreBeautiful little tea shop with an ice cream area to boot. I popped in with my friend for a little light refreshment on Saturday after walking around the Lincoln Castle and down Steep Hill. After sitting down and looking at the menu, I ordered scabbled eggs, toast, and bacon. Also, a Lincolnshire sausage, which was 50p extra. LUSH and delicious food with excellent customer service. Uber clean and very polite, well-informed waitresses. I will be going again as they have a lovely range of hot and cold snacks and main meals plus homemade cakes and hot and cold drinks. Nothing was too much to ask. Will be recommending to all of my friends. How all cafes should be. Clean and tidy. Upstairs seating...
