I have never felt so embarrassed for the waitress or my 9 year old daughter. The food in this place in no way reflects a fine dining experience, but the menu would lead you to believe otherwise (steak priced at nearly £30 for example).
This was meant to be a special meal out for us both :(
My daughter had mussels as a starter-fine but you get just as good from a packet in Sainsburys. I had mushrooms on bruchetta-dry, under seasoned and dull. My daughter's confit duck leg was tasteless but ok-school dinner standard of the dish-except it came out so hot she burned her mouth! My seabass (from the al a carte menu like the duck) was tiny, dry with oily skin and the accompanying mint and pea risotto was basically dried mint with overcooked frozen peas in a cheese sauce based rice dish.
When I carefully and quietly approached the waitress to raise my concerns she had to seemingly negotiate between myself and the manager (by telephone) who was refusing to show any customer care despite my efforts to preserve the atmosphere and not offend other diners, our attending servers or my daughter. At one point our waitress brought out my cold remnants of sea bass looking grey on a saucer, minus the risotto, saying her manager was refusing to accommodate my complaint.
Yes, we were offered a desert, or another starter but unfortunately considering we had desert at home and they didn't have the starter I'd ordered originally this wasn't going to resolve the issue.
This place is really not to standard to anyone who really likes good food. I paid £74 (as I eventually convinced them I was not paying for my seabass dish) for what was essentially location over quality.
One of the worst customer experiences I have ever had and I've been to many restaurants from Mcdonalds to Michelin starred- I strongly recommend you avoid Cafe Zoot.
By the way, my sincere apologies to the waiting staff-j hope your manager treats you better than...
Read moreNot really sure what’s happened to Zoots. We’ve recently moved back to Lincs and remembered how great a Cafe Zoots was. Not sure why it’s being Described as ‘Italian’ in reviews , as apart from the staff and the fact they serve pizza, there’s nothing remotely Italian about this restaurant! Last night was chaotic to say the least. Totally disorganised, many diners complaining of waiting a long time to be served, we were asked many times if we were ‘ready’ but no one would came back to us ! People were presented with bills (obviously for other tables) when they hadn’t even been served yet. Wrong dishes were offered to numerous tables. I had the pate, which seemed straight out of the local supermarket and then the tarragon chicken, very bland, no tarragon in mine, with dauphinois potatoes, which again, was tasteless. No cream, no garlic, just a pile of sliced potatoes. Well Zoots, you may have had bums on seats, but you need to up your game if you still want to claim you do...
Read moreSo disappointed. We love the 3 restaurants of cafe zoot, tequilas & the old P, basilica and have done so for about 15 years….I believe now though that they may have been sold? We received a trio voucher as a present and chose zoot last night, I called ahead to make a reservation. When we arrived the girl didn’t let me speak but this may have been because the gent behind the bar barked at her as to which to sit us at! The starters were good - although the sauce for the muscles was a little bland, the pate was very tasty! I chose a pizza as they were always great there…not impressed at all this time. My husband had steak, requested rare it came out medium and tasted like it had been sat in butter for ages. We explained why we’d only eaten 1/4 of our food & asked for the bill….when received I then I had to request the steak be taken off…many discussions between wait staff & barking man over by the bar but it was removed. I’m so sad as used to Love the...
