I booked a table for 9, for my partners 50th birthday celebrations. I checked the website to see if they had any restrictions on under 18s as my son, who is 16 was going to be with us, there was nothing on the website at all. When we turned up there was a doorman outside spoiling the whole secret speakeasy theme completely. He asked for my name for the booking then checked everyone's ID. I explained that my son was obviously not going to be drinking, but this was apparently not good enough and I was told that my 16 year old would have to leave before 9pm, giving us 20 minutes. He was rude and arrogant saying he had total control over who he let in to his bar. We went in hoping that the bouncer would just leave us alone. We were shown down a staircase to what looked like a dark grotty hole in the ground, not what I was expecting from a 1920s style speakeasy. As soon as we sat down we were approached by another member of staff who was also rude and aggressive saying my son had to leave. We asked to see the manager and the bouncer arrived again saying he was the owner and doorman, manager etc. He said I had to ask my son to leave. We left after 5 minutes disappointed and insulted. This place is not what I was expecting at all and the way we were treated was shocking. It nearly spoilt the evening. Luckily we found a much nicer place that welcomed us and we had a lovely time. I can't imagine this place will last long as it was hardly busy but turned away 9 people because of a stupid rule that they created themselves. Would not...
Read moreI like the Vice & Co. The concept is different to anything else in Lincoln, thus making it truly unique experience. The drinks are also fantastic, but the decor and the atmosphere is lacking. For this reason, I haven't rated higher than 3 stars. It's a "one-time" experience. Once you've done it, you've done it. The drinks aren't enough to get you to keep coming back. Don't get me wrong, the drinks are amazing but too much has been focused on this area. The Vice & Co needs to 'Wow' factor and it just doesn't have it. Once you've gotten past the part of trying to find the place and sat down to the 'menu' the experience loses it's uniqueness. It just becomes another bar in Lincoln and a pricey one at that. The decor needs rethinking. The experinece needs rethinking. A speak easy should be themed in the roaring 20s! Not have midcentury modern themed lighting, give me faux opulence in a chandelier. The music should reflect this, pictures of the wall should be of the 20s or atleast 1920s Lincoln. There is no password element. If I book, I should be given a password. It makes the experience more fun! I would genuinely pay £15 to get in if the staff joined in the pretence that it is the 20s and it's a speak easy. It needs to look, feel and have the atmosphere of The Blind Pig speak easy from Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them. It's a nice place to visit, but it could be a great place if the owners REALLY...
Read moreI'm giving 2 stars for the quality of the drinks but the service was terrible, I understand the new restrictions imposed by the Government but their service hasn't adapted well to the change. I had a table booked for 8, between arriving and getting my first drink it was 50 minutes, over 30 minutes to even take our order despite other tables arriving after us but having their order taken. We were limited to 90 minutes and in that time had two rounds of drinks, both times the order was incorrect. There was a seating area close to us which seated 2 people, this was next to the bar and in a busy area, due to social distancing people should not be sat there as staff congregated around them. The Irish owner/manager walked through several times shouting at his staff and top it off after paying and leaving we were chased down the street by the very same guy and he said we hadn't paid, we had, we...
