I've been wanting to come to Belzan for years. So many years. My friends, it was worth the wait. This might now be my favourite Liverpool eaterie, and I'm clearly not alone as the window stickers denoting Good Food and Michelin guides annually through the years, including 2025.
Everyone raves about the Guinness Rarebit Potato, and it's justified. Definitely get it. So tender, creamy, and that ketchup salsa thing on top was just...yeah. Amazing.
Don't sleep on the other small plates too - the grilled hispi cabbage was one of the nicest things I've had in this city, or anywhere. The little crumbs of Lancashire cheese adds a lovely sharpness. Yum.
We had the pork collar and jersey royals for our bigger plates, and both were fantastic. The potatoes were so crispy, with oyster mushrooms and a delicious egg yolk. The pork had a Mediterranean vibe with tomatoes, and olives. Really great food.
Desserts were top notch too. We had an incredible chocolate mousse with crunchy, salty hazelnuts. Also had a strawberry and raspberry choux bun that was packed with fresh fruit, chantilly cream, and what our lovely host (who I think is the owner!) called 'tubby custard' 🤣
Can't speak highly enough of the people, who were warm, funny, and attentive all evening.
God I can't wait to go back. £130 with drinks felt like a steal. Loved every minute.
Edit: almost forgot - get the sourdough with the cauliflower butter. Never tested anything like...
Read moreHad an wonderful overall experience at Belzan on our last visit to Liverpool. The restaurant is not within the main city area I’d Liverpool so for those visiting Liverpool, it does feel quite a trek to get there but I’d assure you, it will be worth the visit.
Service is very warm, even pre visit to the restaurant. I could only see a table online at 8:30 and left a note to see if one was available at 8. They called me and dropped me an email to confirm that we could come in at 8. From the greeting with smile to the explanation of dishes and drinks, the service is exceptional and personable. Easily 5 star.
The restaurant had a very good vibe and easy to speak to each other even though the place was full. This was a pleasant experience especially I find a lot of restaurants these days quite noisy.
The drinks were excellent - negroni is super, served from a bottle frozen in the same way as martini, espresso martini and great selections of wines including a few wines by the glass, too. The food was exciting, highlights for us was Guineas rarebit potatoes, beetroots with cream and walnuts, mushroom and butter beans and rum baba. The only critique I had was some items (potatoes/Guinea fowl) were not piping hot. But the taste of food really compensated the experience.
This place definitely is somewhere you’d want to have in your neighbourhood and if we are ever back in Liverpool, we...
Read moreTerrible avoid - I will never visit this restaurant ever again. My birthday was ruined !!!!!
I booked for 6 people for 6pm on Friday. We were getting back from holiday at 3pm. When we got to airport there was a delay. I tried to call to change time no answer and I sent a message at 12 noon to ask just in case. The cases were delayed by an hour with no reception etc being underground. I called and spoke to david and he said come at 6.30 and be off table by 8pm. I said I’m not being rushed on my birthday. He knew there was a problem as we kept breaking up. When I got out I had 3 missed calls and replied. If david world have said to me either way you will be charged £150 if you do not attend. Yea £150 and he didn’t mention this or I would have sent my 5 friends to go at 6.30. We got home in the end at 6.30 and had to book another restaurant and it cost me £300. After a long stressful day and birthday.
I checked my account on Saturday and £150 was taken from Belzan.
I called david and all I got was yeah read our terms etc. £150 is a lot of money for not attending a meal when I was calling texting trying my best to change it.
I haft recommended this place to several clients and will never return and will be advising them the same.
I would understand paying a small fee but £150 which david could have told me on the phone I would be charged ...
