Never been to Browns before but we will definitely be returning! The service, we received and the cleanliness of the restaurant were amazing from the moment we entered to the moment we left! When we arrived at Browns as a party of 4 for lunch, Lacey the manager greeted us with a warm and welcoming smile and politely showed us to our table by the window which was perfect!! Once seated, Lacey promptly gave each member of our party a menu, offered us all some water and informed us who our server would be. Our water arrived along with our server Lee who introduced himself - again politely and with a smile. We ordered our drinks, as we were all driving, we all chose Pepsis which arrived promptly. Lee enquired about are dietary requirements which I thought was a great touch! We all decided on the 2 course lunch option; I ordered the steak frites followed by the second course of the apple pie!! All of the food was cooked to perfection and wow the apple pie was the best I’ve ever tasted! My 3 colleagues all agreed their food was 10/10 also! To say I was impressed is an understatement!! Special thanks must go to Lacey the manager and Lee our server on their fab customer service skills - nothing was too much trouble! I shall be coming back for another visit next week and I hope to sample some cocktails as the table next to ours was being served cherry bramble cocktails and they looked awesome!! Highly recommend Browns to anyone looking for somewhere to go for lunch with very reasonable prices especially for the city centre location....

I was really looking forward to coming to Brown's tonight, the Menu looked great and had a good selection of choice for those needing gluten free. The venue is lovely, very tasteful and the staff very attentive and friendly. Prices I felt a little high, but happy to pay if the food was as lovely as expected. I chose the vegetarian stew which included bread and was also a gluten free option. I decided against a starter but my friends who ordered the goats cheese and beetroot starter, looked lovely and tasted as nice as it looked, bar the bread which was apparently hard and not great My meal arrived but, (not that I'm greedy), on what looked like a starter dish. In fact I queried it with the Server if they'd prepared it as a starter It was also burnt around the edges of the dish and in all honesty there wasn't a great deal there. I imagined a nice hearty soup bowl or similar for a hearty veggie stew..no... It was a saucer sized metal shallow bowl dish with the stew just covering the base of the dish. I'd estimate one rounded ladle of stew with 2 slices of gf bread. Great as a starter, but this was meant to be a main, and at the price being charged, was very disappointing The stew tasted lovely just not enough of it. The bowl wasn't even half full. Such a shame as my friend ordered the Christmas Dinner which looked fabulous and plentiful Lesson learned don't order the stew as you'll leave hungry. My meal.consisted of Btle of water, diet coke and a small portion of veg stew,...

Tried this upmarket restaurant for lunch while on a day trip. It's in a handy central location behind the John Lewis department store. Lots of outside tables. Inside, the decor is elegant and modern. Lovely colour scheme, lots of plants, subdued lighting, and a piano near the bar. There's a variety of seating that includes comfy armchairs and banquettes. The staff were courteous and welcoming, and I was shown to a table straight away. Unfortunately, it was too high for me, but that was no problem as a very nice waitress found me a more suitable table close to the window. I was brought a glass of iced water to drink with my meal. A varied and tempting choice on the lunch menu, including vegetarian and vegan options, and it was useful to see the number of calories shown next to each dish. Opted for the two courses for ÂŁ17.95. Had smoked haddock fishcakes served with a little pot of lemon hollandaise, crispy kale and yellow heirloom tomatoes. The chunky parmesan and truffle chips cost extra. Well prepared and presented, lovely flavours, ample portions. The only thing I could fault was that the food was more warm than hot. The Bramley apple and blackberry crumble, with stem ginger ice-cream, was deliciously spicy. Good quality wine too, and a hot latte to finish. Friendly and attentive service from Jason throughout my meal. Overall an enjoyable...

Service was good. Main course was a let down, we had Shepards pie, when it arrived, looked OK, two mouthfuls and the waitress asked how it was, ok we said, but as we started to eat more, lots of Rosemary twiggs in it, which made it unpleasant to eat, taking these twiggs out of your mouth, some bits 2 inches! It was more like a soup with two tiny bits of meat, we could have done with a spoon to eat it. It tasted ok and finished it, but for the money we expect some meat in it, some substance and a bit more mash potato on top, I did not use the gravey as it did not need it! Also the meal I wanted was the Cod dish which was not available (disappointing) also another dish I would have choosen from the vegetarian choice, Curry also not available. Puddings were ok but certainly over priced for the potion. Who's on a diet after walking 10 miles as we did that day (yesterday)? So we left feeling disappointed really, we have eaten in Browns before (not Liverpool) and have enjoyed our meals before with no complaints. After sitting down at the table where we picked up our menus the table was not clean either, mainly water marks and dried on. Up-date: 2 weeks later, after I was given an email address to reply to Browns, which I did reply to. But not heard a thing from the. How disappointing! :(

Lovely food, gorgeous setting. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is you’re asked if you want water before your bum has even hit the seat at which point you’re presented with a bottle of water that you don’t realise costs £5.50 until you get the bill. I felt like we were kind of conned into it like some sort of cheap marketing ploy, let us sit and then we will order our own drinks don’t offer us water before we’ve even sat down especially if you’re planning on charging £5.50 for it ! My daughter didn’t want water only I did (and I said ‘I would love a glass of water please’) my daughter then felt lumbered with it and didn’t order a different drink. Also the service charge being added on automatically is a bug bear of mine. We are not American, tips should not be assumed. I always tip good service but that’s my decision and shouldn’t be forced upon me. Also I want to decide how much. The water trick and the forced service charge has left a nasty after taste which is a shame because up to then we were loving it. Other restaurants are more open when presenting the bill in regards to service charge, this felt under hand.
