I would normally be neutral with my ratings, but I am unable to reserve it for The Peacock in West Derby Village.
I am absolutely disgusted at how such a lovely venue, situated in a popular part of Liverpoolâs thriving outer-city scene, can have the most obnoxious and disgusting doorman (bouncer).
Whilst out with my brother, we approached the venue and were asked to show IDs, I had no issue with either bouncer who allowed me in.
However, my brother was asked to produce his ID which he did and coincidentally, a lady pushing her pram was walking in the opposite direction on the narrow pedestrian footpath of Mill Lane. The narrow road had The Peacockâs sign out meaning that there is a possibility of a bottleneck formation when many people are walking up and down Mill Lane.
As the lady was pushing her pram from the opposite way, my brother was told to âmove out the wayâ and âyouâre in her wayâ in a shouty, aggressive tone by the very tall bouncer. The very tall bouncer finished off his barrage of tantrums aimed at my brother by calling him a effing dope.
I donât think I can justify swearing at a stranger, let alone making a repulsive slur at a young man half of my age.
Therefore, there is no other choice but to make stay that our experience of The Peacock in West Derby Village was negative. I would seriously avoid The Peacock if you are a young person in West Derby Village and you see the bouncer on the door. You do not feel safe in there.
After walking in, we had no further problems, but we were irate with how The Peacock can employ/contract out their security, to a personnel with no people skills and uses limited and discriminating vocabulary.
After talking to my brother, we were not surprised to see that the venue has low reviews, in addition to recent similar experiences shared in recent weeks.
Spend your money elsewhere in the village and avoid The Peacock...
Read moreIf I could give zero reviews for food I would! My partner and I got a sharer platter and the chicken wings were RAW in the middle! My partner went to the bar staff to explain this and they were very apologetic and brought over some new ones, the 2nd batch of chicken wings were also RAW and stone cold in the middle! We are reasonable people that don't like to make a fuss or cause attention, so my partner brings the chicken wings over to the bar staff to show them, which they apologised again, understanding our disappointment and they go to speak to the manager. The bar staff come over asking if we want chicken wings again which we declined and they offered a free drink instead. Now it's not about getting a free drink or a refund its the health and safety of the food prep clearly not being done by the chef, but worse of it, and the main reason that has put me off this place and to type this review is the manager! He should've been more professional and come over himself to apologise and reassured us this would never happen again instead of making his staff doing his running round and apologising as its not the bar staffs fault that he, as a manager, has clearly hired someone incapable to use a probe to check if chicken wings are cooked, not ONCE but TWICE, instead he purposely walks around the bar making himself look busy and avoids eye contact, what a "big man" he is. Reading previous reviews, I definitely agree that he is arrogant and unprofessional. There are better bars and places to eat in the village than here. Side note - we have no issues with the bar staff and we appreciate their...
Read moreHaving enjoyed a lovely walk through croxteth Park and into West Derby Village, decided to grab a bite to eat at The Peacock. Havenât been able to go in previously as they state on an A board on the pavement, no tracksuits and this is generally the type of clothing I would be wearing following a walk but on this occasion, I was wearing knee length shorts as it was a gloriously sunny day. Walked into an empty and soulless bar where the only member of staff to be seen, casually raised her head from looking at her phone. Given the lack of welcome and atmosphere, I asked for confirmation that the bar was indeed open. The woman responded with âyeah but we canât serve you, we have a dress codeâ I acknowledged this and pointed out that I was not wearing a tracksuit to which she replied, your wearing shorts, its the same attire. I voiced my disagreement and highlighted that the intrusive sign on the pavement outside only said tracksuits, not tracksuit and similar. She shrugged and went back to her phone. I left shaking my head and went straight to The Book for a warm welcome and fabulous service and food. Given the absolute appalling attitude and the stupidity at The Peacock I donât think I will be returning and as a food blogger with thousands of followers, I will be sharing...
