For the price paid (£32 per night) for a room above a pub in a busy city centre location - it was okay, rooms are clean and basic. That is the best part. Now for alll the things that are not okay.... No remote for the TV, no milk to go with the tea and coffee and the kettle barely fits in the bathroom sink to fill up! Bathroom in the twin room we stayed in was poorly designed - you have to squeeze past the shower door to get into the shower as it opens out - (needs to be a slide or bi-fold really as the bathroom is tiny), and the door to the bathroom doesn't close easily!!! The beds are really bouncy and springy - not great. Our room was small and too warm - we left the window open to allow air flow as the fan provided was a bit dusty looking! However, the noise from outside is so bad all night long that we just didn't get a decent night's sleep at all. Also,am not sure about the £50 cash damages deposit that is requested at check-in? When we asked about how we get this back (as had read several reviews where people couldn't contact anyone to 'check out' and so never got their £50 back !!) We were told that there wouldn't be anyone around at 8am when we needed to leave but the cleaners would be, I asked how we get in to speak to the cleaners as the pub was all locked up when we'd arrived at 11am earlier that day - guy at the bar smirked and said he'd ask someone (but basically it didn't look hopeful) , so we said that we could return early evening to check out instead and get our money back he said that's up to you! - Am wondering how people would normally get their £50 back if the pub doesn't open til midday and they have to check out by 11am? (Or maybe 10am as it said on another sign in the building!) We'd gone out for dinner and came back to our room about 8pm, (so not late), and we had to negotiate with a homeless, drunk lady that had camped on the doorstep to the rooms - which are accessed through a separate door at the side of the pub! This door would not lock properly so anyone could have wondered in off the street. There seems to be an hourly bus that stops outside the pub throughout the night which makes an awful racket - combine that with the noise from the pub - (live music), and surrounding venues as well as the other people staying in the accommodation slamming doors and stomping about means that most people would not be able to get to sleep or stay asleep here!!! Not the worst place in the world but would not...
Read moreWorst experience ever. We were not informed about renovation. When we reached the hotel main door was locked..we called the number given but nobody responded we had to wait out with 7 months old in windy weather . After 1 hr they picked the call and opened the door. There is no lift and stairs are very steep and small. It was very hard to take pram upto 2nd floor. The room was very dusty and the floor was not even vaccumed. There was no Wifi connection when asked they said they have disconnected as its under renovation. the beds were very old n shakey. Curtain rods and curtains were fully broken felt like it will fall on our head. It was difficult for us as our 7 month old was crawling everywhere n putting everything in his mouth. Hotel location is very good right in the city centre. Other than that Hotel is really very very bad. Don't...
Read moreWe only visited the pub, not the hotel. Located in a busy part of the centre, the exterior is quite unassuming, so it’s a pleasant surprise once you step inside. We visited around 4 p.m., and while it wasn’t too crowded, it had a lively atmosphere with a mix of tourists and people from work. The beer selection was solid, though not the most extensive. I had the Shropshire Ale and appreciated that it was served in the correct glass. The staff were friendly and helpful. Be sure to explore beyond the bar – the impressive room at the back, with its high ceilings, chandelier, and real fire, is a highlight. Prices were average for the area. Overall, definitely worth a visit, especially if you go beyond first impressions...
