Went for a drink with my partner and we ordered two pitchers. I asked the lady behind the bar if we could have no ice, she then smiled at her colleague and walked away to empty the ice. I then watched her pour juice into both empty jugs and no alcohol. We then took them and sat down, tasted to see if there was any alcoholic and it tasted like pure juice. I went to the manager and said that we couldn’t taste any, she tried it and pulled the most dramatic face and said that they’re was and she doesn’t drink so she would know (clearly doesn’t know). I then said I watched the girl make them and I didn’t see her pour any alcohol in. The manager then said she looked at the cameras and there was alcohol in them 🙄. Both managers had been hostile and rude so we just wanted to leave at this point, it had ruined are time so we asked if they had take away cups and they said they didn’t have any. I then left my partner and walked to McDonald so we could get take away cups. Went back in and sat down and the bouncers (who were lovely to us, managers take notes you could learn a thing or two) politely explained that we couldn’t have other branded cups in the pub. So as we were leaving one of the managers shouts at us saying we can’t leave with alcohol it’s the law, so we said fair enough but there’s no need to be rude with us. We sat back down and drank more of our mocktail’s. In the end we managed to sneak them out and put alcohol in them at home. I’ve worked in a pub and hospitality for years and on your worst days with the rudest of customers you still have to be polite, we were nothing but polite when bringing our issue to the managers. I would’ve left it and not had a problem if we had been spoken to with respect. I have since got in touch with customer service and they have apologised to us on our experience and have received discounts. It costs nothing to be nice with a smile...
Read moreIt seems whichever Wetherspoons one goes into one can expect the same, whether in Leeds or here in Liverpool. The places are always popular, bordering on packed out. This was the second time my family and I had visited this Wetherspoons. This time was Mon 14th Aug in the late afternoon. We did manage to spot a vacant table for four and made ourselves at home. It is fantastic that everything can be ordered via the Wetherspoons App, so no unnecessary queuing to order and pay. This is a massive bonus. I respect Wetherspoons for providing an excellent niche product, food, beer, and quick service, however to me it feels like it's merely a little more upmarket Burger King, or MacDonalds with much better decor, and alcholic drinks available in what is often a pub like atmosphere. However, one might still experience the sticky tables, and screaming kids. But having said that, it suits a lot of people, plus us on this occasion, so well done. The food and drinks were received without fuss, and bar a side order not being delivered, causing my partner to chase it up, and still receiving the wrong item, all was okay. I had the basic burger and chips. If I remember the last time we called in, we received a salad of some sort on the same plate, which was lacking this time. The burger and chips did look a little sad and lonely on the plate, but was tasty enough. Everyone else in the party seemed happy with their meals. I think as all Wetherspoons' customers will agree, its a place to get a quick and reasonably satisfying meal, in pleasant surroundings where, without any screaming children, one can relax for a while, chat and recharge the batteries to go out and enjoy whatever else one might be doing. Still I thank you Wetherspoons for...
Read moreI couldn't be more pleased with the service and treat offered by the John Blacker staff. Last month, my parents came to visit me in England and we had a fantastic time at Liverpool on the day of the Champions League final. Unfortunately, when we got to the train station to take our train back to Manchester, we were told the trains had been cancelled and there was not longer service. We came back to that area, to see whether we could use somebody's phone to call a taxi as my phone was running out of battery, and the doorman very kindly let us get inside the pub even though it was already closed (he remembered us from earlier in the evening when we had some dinner). I managed to charge my phone inside while a few members of the staff helped me to get a taxi (taxis were fully booked and I was not familiar with the apps in that area, etc). My parents were sitting inside having a drink, which was fantastic as my dad had recently got some surgery on his foot and couldn't stand up for long. We managed to get a taxi by 1am. The staff were already closing the pub but kindly waited for us to ensure we would pick a taxi and get safely back to our hotel in Manchester. The members of the staff went far and beyond, and the treat we got from them was exceptional. I am so grateful for this gesture and I wanted to ensure the managers of this venue are fully aware of this.I cannot comment on the food much (standard Wetherspoon food I'd say), but I can say that this extraordinary treat is something that I will definitely remember. Many thanks for your help....
