On the plus side the place is clean and well laid out. Staff were functional and kept the place tidy. Used plates were removed quickly and the tables were kept clean. What let’s this place down is the quality of the food. Not even up to the standard of a decent takeaway. All the south East Asian dishes were more like soups. The sauces were all runny, which is great if you want to play a game of hunt the meat. I tended to stick to the curries and spent a while chasing the few pieces of lamb that were present in one dish. The chicken tikka was very dry (maybe I should have dropped it in some of the soup mentioned earlier) and the seihk kebabs had disappeared and not replenished until I was ready to leave. The roasted salmon looked great, at least the head and tail did, as that’s the only thing that was left, and yes I did check back later and no it hadn’t been replaced. Maybe my timing was just a bit off? Chinese style pork ribs were ok. Stuck to the salad bar for my firsties, as there was plenty of choice and was pretty much the best thing about the place. Desert station came a close second as they had plenty of choice and would keep a sweet tooth happy for a while. Another reviewer mentioned the chocolate fountain is a bit runny, which it is, but tastes ok and might be best used to moisten up the chocolate gateaux. Jamie Oliver describes Eton Mess, another offering, as “traditionally made with strawberries, meringue and thick whipped cream”. So much for tradition eh. Again, the chocolate water is your friend here. Am I picky about my food? Not particularly. Some of the stuff just didn’t look great so didn’t bother. Usual shenanigans with errant toddlers wandering about the food area doesn’t help in these places. Do you get what you pay for? Maybe. If you love carbs then this is definately your gig. I walked out full, which is pretty much what these places are about. With a bit more effort though it could be so so good. Next time I’ll pay an extra £10 a head and go for lunch at Fazenda. Different thing I know, but like a universe...
Read moreDear managers of this restaurant, we have been to your restaurant a few times and the negative aspects are almost always the same, which we are very unhappy about, they are:
Your staff is unfriendly and makes us look like we don't even pay to eat and drink in your restaurant.
Do you have a sign at the entrance to the counter (as shown in the photo) where we pay that informs customers that they start picking up food at 9:45pm, but they always pick up much earlier, in addition there are things that start to run out and are not replenished .
Food made at the moment also closes much earlier.
It's been a week tomorrow since we've been there and it was a disappointment, we got in around 7:30pm and we always have to be quick, as we noticed what we liked missing and the workers started to get anxious for us to hurry. We were also the ones who removed the dirty dishes from the table, as no one came to remove them, even before 8:30 pm they were already removing things and not replacing them, the freshly prepared food service no longer wanted to attend, anyway... a series of situations, but we've seen them before.
We also saw a steel sponge (as shown in the photo) on the counter near where food is cooked and could be dangerous, they will learn about the norms on public health and all the precautions to be taken in the field of health and food safety. We've already been to your restaurant during non-closing hours, seeing the staff eating next to us and others packing their own lunchboxes, including an employee who entered the restaurant with his bicycle, wouldn't it be better to these things happened after the customers left? We are embarrassed by certain situations...
You have to be more careful with the service you provide to customers, as we are the reason for your existence, without customers you don't...
Read moreUnfortunately to keep this review up to date I have had to change my rating. Bon pan used to be a lovely place to visit for a meal on my trips to Liverpool was I was left a little disappointed on my last visit. Bon pan now do not offer refillable drinks as they had done previously, I understand the business has probably struggled during the pandemic but when I arrive for opening the restaurant filled up quickly. The refillable drinks was a staple to the restaurant that no one else offered and I was really sad to see it go.
Friendly staff are friends and will happily take dishes from your table to avoid any mess. The food is all you can eat and even with the pandemic you are able to walk up and select your own food. Some people wear masks and others don't. Like I say it does fill up fast so there is no social distancing in place.
Also another stable they offer is the fresh stir fry to be cooking in from of you. You select what noodles and veg you want and hand them over to be cooked with some meat. This is amazing to watch and it normally a grate experience. However on my last visit I was not even asked about sauce or anything like normal and was serviced dry noodle with chicken and unfortunately the chicken wasn't cooked all the way through and I was unable to eat it. I wasn't expecting it to be pink in the middle It seemed like a really waste of food, and I hated the waste.
Some of the food is love and the staff can be amazing, they all wear masks and this helped me feel alittle more comfortable. it's just a shame that the restaurant has changed so much as I used to love my...
