Impressive, the bankers who put this Club together managed to amass a great team of wine experts who know exactly what they’re doing - smart because bankers themselves know as much about wines as they do banking/risk management. Equally impressive is the charade of how the members make it look like they know their stuff. Before putting glass to lips, there’s a swivel of the glass (to bring the flavours to the fore), then the deep sniff, glass against white napkin to check the colour, followed by a sharp sip, a long air inhalation, not forgetting the final facial expression as though you’re getting your prostrate checked. Lastly some dumb comment emerges from mouth in an attempt to demonstrate they know what they’re drinking.
Whilst the circus of people at the Club is male dominated, the wine list is deep, and impressive and the food as you would expect in London, tremendous. Just enjoy it and save your laughter of the charade till you safely get in the cab on...
Read moreThis club is for wine enthusiasts. This is immediately evident from the extensive wine list and knowledgeable sommelier- so this aspect of 67 Pall Mall was great. However the shortcomings appeared when we wanted to order a meal with our wine. Menu quite limited (which is fine!), but when I asked about gluten-free options our waitress seemed very unsure, and it seemed more like she was just guessing what was gluten-free. She assured us twice that the scotch egg was gluten-free, so we ordered it, then 10 mins later she came back to inform us that it was in fact NOT gluten free (frustrating, but not the end of the world). But what was annoying was how long it took for food to arrive; we ordered at 8pm, starters came and 8.30pm and mains didn’t come till 9.30pm! Food really delicious- sea bass, caesar salad, and side of peas all great. Only the steak was a bit...
Read moreWent there for dinner on Wednesday - felt like an elevated Wetherspoons experience with even a less friendly service. This place warns members to book dinner weeks in advance, which diminishes the point of it being a members club. Upstairs space extremely loud, busy and stuffy. Tables and chairs are moved around by guests like in a pub, service is almost invisible - no regular checkpoints on a table. Food took over 20 mins to arrive with no apology and came overcooked. Dirty plates sat on a table for over 15 minutes. No one came to offer us more drinks once we finished ours. Staff too ignorant to acknowledge mistakes and kept the "service charge" on the bill despite offering a lower than mediocre experience. Overall really unimpressed as a guest and can't even imagine how it feels to be a fee...
