Friary Court at St. James’s Palace is hands down one of the best spots to catch the Changing of the Guard ceremony! If you’re aiming for a great view without the crowds, get there by 9:50 AM, because after that, it’s a sea of people. The action starts with the first troop movements right here at Friary Court, where the St. James's Palace Detachment of The King’s Guard gets inspected. The atmosphere is lively, especially with the St. James's Palace Band playing a selection of tunes—just check the calendar because some days they don’t perform, but it’s still worth it!

The Guards then march off to Buckingham Palace, but Friary Court gives you a sneak peek of the whole process without the long wait. It’s a perfect place for a quick glimpse of the Guards in action. Just be aware that it can get crowded as it’s a popular spot for tour groups, but with a bit of patience, it’s a fantastic experience. Definitely worth checking out for a real taste of...

We finished seeing Buckingham Palace and then walked towards the next stop. And then we saw this court- it was part of St James' palace and this is where the old guard gathers in preparation for the ceremonious march to the palace where it meets up with the additional guard.

It is much better to see this royal spectacle at the source: Friary Court. The Old Guard assembles at Friary Court, Saint James Palace. These troops will march to Buckingham Palace for the guard change ceremony.

it was too early for anyone to visit this place and i wish i could have seen...

After visiting Buckingham Palace, we walked toward our next stop and came across Friary Court, part of St James’s Palace. This is where the Old Guard assembles in preparation for the ceremonial march to Buckingham Palace, where they meet the New Guard for the Changing of the Guard ceremony. It’s actually a wonderful spot to witness the spectacle from the source, away from the larger crowds at the palace. Unfortunately, we arrived too early to see it in action, but I would love to return another time to experience the full...
