Best kept secret ( not) in Acton High St. Bush Library became a theatre and bar and Acton Library became a cinema, cafe and untitled comedy space. Passmore Edwards the architect would be very please to see their second lives as entertainment venues par excellence. I attended a comedy night here hosted by the writer of Peppa pig. The room was comfortable with tables arranged within the rows to accommodate drinks. Very considerate and easier to tidy afterwards.. The ambience and camaraderie of local people and newbies like me was obvious and l enjoyed my evening except for the technicals of the mic Most comedians are loud personalities and in a room this size possibly they don't need much amplification. If my daughter found it a tad too loud my elderly ears had a few twinges. I suggest reducing the volume might be a good idea.
The bar here is stocked here with intriguing choices so congratulations to the buyer. A sugar free ginger beer was very welcome after a hot afternoon. The popcorn was decent and if you fancied a hot savoury or a generous portion of cake they were on offer too. This venue was bought by local people and their determination to keep prices affordable for all of us is truly admirable. I'm going to try the cinema part next with...
Read moreWho would have guessed that this anonymous looking building is in reality a trendy, cosy and nice place to enjoy a relaxing coffee session! I didn't come for the Cinema but after a long day in the park with a toddler I was ready to sit on the floor 🤣🤣🤣 I had no idea how nice the Café was, Vegan Ice-cream (😍 not sorbet, proper creamy and flavoursome), Tea Pigs, and all the wine, beer and liquor shebang! Soft music playing, sofas and dim lights, I visited on a Saturday night and was expecting anything but. Toasties smelled nice but not meat or dairy free for me to try so I dived into the Bear Ice-cream, scoops very generous by the way, and I need to take a leap of faith and try the Beetroot and Wasabi flavour next time 😉 Lovely young girl who served me was so friendly and sweet, she was a pleasure to talk to. Well, I have just seen a different side of Acton Town and I am pleasantly surprised. Money well spent and you get the impression that people are looking after the place and appreciating the space......
Read moreI have been to this cinema and cafe several times and had even paid for a membership before it was offered for free to under 30s. I was under the impression the cafe space was acceptable to use, being quiet and respectful, and have been doing so for the past few weeks with no issues. However, today I was sadly asked to leave as we had not purchased anything (despite living locally and as mentioned, supporting the cinema and cafe several times previously, I don't think it should be mandatory to make a purchase every single visit). The cafe was empty with only two other people there, if it was busy I would understand. I think it's a shame that a place that is supposedly community driven would rather turn people away instead of allow them to respectfully use the space. I no longer feel encouraged to support their cinema any more. It...
