Alberello — Restaurant in London

We booked this restaurant three weeks in advance. We were there to celebrate two birthdays and two achievements. When we turned up, we quickly found out that our table had been given to another group that when asked are you the party of ‘X’ said yes. Apparently, it was somehow our problem! The other group wasn’t asked to leave, they told us there was nothing they could do. When we questioned the situation they told us to go to the pub and pop back later to see if a table may be available, but they couldn’t guarantee it. When we declined that idea they reluctantly offered us to be seated, but we only had 50 min before they needed the table back. It was very clear that they didn’t want to deal with the situation and they had a full restaurant, they were getting paid regardless, so they didn’t care and just wanted us to leave. Luckily the Greek restaurant next door took pity on us when we explained the situation and made room for us on a busy Saturday night! In this economy, going out is a luxury and it’s not something we do often. For us it was to celebrate and it was something we had look forward to. I can’t rate the food or atmosphere as we were turned away from the restaurant despite having booked a table 3 weeks earlier. The restaurant messed up and gave our table away. Now mistakes can happen but it was the lack of accountability and the attempt to make it our problem. They offered us one table for just an hour (not enough for a party of 6 out for a birthday celebration). They refused to try anything else. So we went next door to the lovely Greek taverna where the food, atmosphere and service were excellent. This Italian could have ruined our evening where we were celebrating 2 birthdays and 2 significant achievements. The table was given away because another party claimed they were us. The restaurant did not fully check. If you are attempted to book I suggest you triple check, arrive very early (note we did arrive before our time). My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at this lovely restaurant, we booked the whole restaurant for us and our family and friends, Monica and her husband and team were fantastic from start to finish they couldn’t have been more helpful, the food and drink was fantastic and the service was 10/10 the menu is vast and the price is very fair, I truly recommend this place be it for a celebration meal or just the two of you, you won’t find a better atmosphere or food in the area, Monica is the perfect host and so professional and helpful!
