The Greek Taverna used to be a solid restaurant in the area. Nothing fancy or innovative, but classic Greek style dishes cooked well. I dined here in early November 2023 on a Saturday evening and their standards have definitely dropped.

When we sat down we were informed that a large number of starters and main dishes were unavailable. I ordered the Lamb Kleftiko and it when it was served it looked pale and tasted insipid and bland. Thankfully they had salt and pepper shakes on the table, as it really needed some seasoning! My fellow diners also had an OK meal too, although nothing on what we've previously been served.

When I spoke to the server it was suggested that there's been a change in the kitchen staff, but from my perspective as a diner, I shouldn't have to worry about the teething issues with the staff. There seemed to be lots of frustration and excuses given to us as a table. We also did see staff in the kitchen vaping from our table too which did not feel very hygienic for a professional kitchen.

Overall a big disappointment, and a perfect case of a solid restaurant that has rested on its laurels for too long and has now...

Took my lady for a valentines meal. We got there and was directed to go upstairs. My partner did not want too go upstairs due to her bladder problems. We chose a seat as there was not many people there. We sat for a while then ordered our drinks. Then left for ages until the moody waitress arrived. We ordered then waited for a long time for our food. When the food arrived it was cold, bland and burnt to a cinder. My partner had lamb kebab and it was so tough and chared and dryi just couldn't swollow the first bite. I ordered the steak and that was also dry, cold and bland. We got no sauces with our meal and had to ask for them. My partner did not want his dinner and returned. I asked for a refund and they would only give half because she'd eaten some of it. To be honest a kebab would of been cheaper and more tastier. Disgusting service very bland food and the only thing I enjoyed was the carlsberg which was wet. I'm surprised that wasn't dry. Place should be shut down. We ended up with another couple sitting beside us and quickly shot across the road and eventually had a good...

We decided to try this restaurant out because we'd noticed it a few times and we love our Greek food so why not! The menu was really reasonably priced and we liked the atmosphere in the restaurant! It was pretty busy and the service was good everyone was super friendly. We couldn't believe how cheap the meze was for what you got so we decided to go with that as our option. Unfortunately we were very disappointed by the quality of food. We had callimari which was soggy, and every meat dish we had was unfortunately overcooked which resulted in very dry and tasteless dishes. We enjoyed the sardines and the halloumi was just fine, however we quickly realised why the food was so cheap due to lack of quality. We couldn't even stomach the meat platter because it was all so overcooked and supposedly served with "Greek salad" which I would only describe as a block of feta and some lettuce and tomato. Although we walked away with not too much of a dent in our bank accounts, we were disappointed overall by the food we tasted. Maybe they were having a bad night...

*A VALENTINES CON* I have emailed twice and even called in to ask for a response on this matter and have been completely ignored. Feeling incredibly frustrated and just so conned by this whole experience. The attached photos are what made up our meal costing over Ā£100! If you cost up these items on the standard menu they come to Ā£50. It was Valentine’s Day and instead of putting on a special menu to justify higher prices - this restaurant DOUBLED their prices and massively reduced the menu offering. Not only that but they reduced the portion sizes - chicken kebab normally comes with salad and rice but not for Valentine’s Day! A downgraded option for Valentine’s Day. The first thing our waitress said to us was ā€˜you’re sitting in the wrong seats, I set the other side of the table’. Not even a hello. She came back to ask for our drinks order to which I asked for a couple more minutes and she sighed and walked off. The service continued to be this unbelievably abrupt. Really saddened that the restaurant will not engage with me on this matter.

Great food and nice place. We stumbled randomly into this restaurant as we were looking for a place to have lunch. The restaurant looks cozy from the outside, but it has a much bigger room upstairs, and maybe another floor too(we saw another set of stairs, but didn't go up). The food is really good, big portions and nicely plated. Not the best Greek cousine I ever tried, but really good quality. We had falafel and crab mayo as starters, both tasty and delicate. I ordered the veggie moussaka as main, which comes with a Greek salad on the side. Quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. Got a cake as dessert and it was good too. The host has been friendly and welcoming, always available. Overall really pleasant experience and I would recommend it. The reason why I gave four stars is because the place needs to be cleaned and looked after better.

The best thing about this taverna is the Keo! It’s a shame as it has such potential! As a Greek Cypriot I’m actually offended by the food. Why is the loukaniko and halloumi deep fried? Why are the pittes cheap thin ones? Why is the potato salad with mayonnaise when traditionally it’s olive oil and lemon? Dips lovely and home made Kolokeftedakia mixture still wet inside Chicken souvla coated in something and why is there kofte which essentially is the keftedes meat grilled instead of fried. Souvlakia Lily like they’d been fried. Not traditional at all! They were playing lovely music real tunes but when I asked for it to be played upstairs it wasn’t an option as the speakers didn’t work. Overall deeply disappointed and it’s a shame as they do seem like lovely people! Especially Damianos thank you for your service!
