The Lamb is a cosy little Irish bar just north of Highbury Islington station. It has the feel of a local and full of character which makes it a great place for a pint of Guinness with friends. Prices are reasonable although a tad high for the location at ÂŁ3.80 a pint (or perhaps that was the St. Paddy's day price). They also offer Poitin which is basically the Irish version of Moonshine. Apparently, it's illegal in most places but pretty much every family will keep a bottle on hand for disinfecting wounds and the odd swig now and then. It's fairly tasty with a relatively mild flavour but packs a hefty punch that really creeps up on you.
The staff are friendly and quick to serve with a smile. They don't have a kitchen but do offer your standard bags of crisps and nuts. On St. Patty's day, they had a limited Irish menu that was basically imported from somewhere but was surprisingly tasty despite being nuked. On a normal day, they have a partnership with a local Italian pizza joint and you can order to the bar.
Overall, a good place for a drink but a bit too far out of the way for me to make it a regular stop. For St. Patty's day 2013 it was brilliant! Oh, and instead of an animal, they have a picture of Jesus on...
Read moreNestled in the literary veins of Bloomsbury, The Lamb is a Grade II listed pub that feels like a gentle nod to Londonâs quieter, more contemplative soul. Itâs not flashy, not trying to be trendyâand thatâs precisely its charm.
Atmosphere Step inside and youâre greeted by etched glass panels, polished wood, and a timeless hush. Thereâs no blaring music, no screensâjust the soft hum of conversation and the clink of pint glasses. Itâs the kind of place where you can read a book, have a thoughtful chat, or simply sit with your thoughts and a well-poured ale.
Food & Drink The menu leans traditional, but with care. The fish pie, for instance, isnât rushedâit arrives piping hot, clearly made to order, and rich with comfort. Pair it with a pint of Youngâs Special and youâve got a meal that feels like a warm handshake. The cask ales are well-kept, and thereâs a quiet pride in the selection.
Service Staff are unobtrusive but attentive. Youâre not fussed over, but youâre never forgotten. Itâs the kind of service that respects your space while making sure your glass is...
Read moreI moved into the area about 8-9 months ago from San Francisco. I knew of the Lamb from friends and had visited before relocating.
Having some experience with interesting joints to hang out and have a beer in, I find The Lamb a great mix of chill as in very cool, and friendly as in pleasant people. The place attracts a wide variety of people who all seem to blend into a pleasant vibe and a good soundtrack.
Itâs really well managed and the staff is great. Good selection of beers, wine and full bar. They have regular music, a few dogs and some good art and poetry events which adds to the variety of folks who stop in. Good choice of easy food within a few minutes walk on Holloway Road Road when you want to get some...
