đ Bethnal Green đș £6.45 Brixton Pale Ale
The Angel & Crown is located between the Cranbrook and Greenways estates in Globe Town, Bethnal Green. The nearest Tube is Bethnal Green on the Central Line
This pub was established in 1889 and rebuilt in 1951. In recent years, this flat roof pub went through a troubled time, earning it the label "worst pub in London" due to antisocial behaviour. After being put up for sale in 2017, it was refurbished and reopened in December 2019, only to close again. The pub was revived in February 2024, taking it in a new direction.
Stepping inside, you're instantly transported to a retro setup with 70s-inspired decor. Youâll find psychedelic wallpaper, neon angel wings, and groovy flower power prints adorning the walls. The is plenty of seating throughout, mixing low level seating and stools by a fair few drinking ledges.
The beer selection showcased a good range, featuring both local London breweries and familiar favorites. I went for a Brixton Pale Ale, my pint hit the spot, it was however a tad pricier than usual. The food menu offers tasty light bites and gourmet burgers which receive rave reviews.
We strolled in around 3 o'clock on an overcast Saturday afternoon in January. The pub had a gentle buzz, with a friendly crowd enjoying drinks around the bar. The atmosphere was relaxed and easygoing, we found a comfy spot to settle in and enjoy our pints. The service was great, the chap on duty was welcoming and friendly.
This pub hosts Karaoke, DJ nights and Jazz evenings.
This pub will appeal to the new generation of visitors and inhabitants to the area, it was great to see this pub brought back to life, albeit in a very different guise. Part of me wished the old rough and ready boozer was still here, but times they are a changing. We enjoyed our time here, it was something different, worth a look if youâre in the area.

This last fateful Sunday just passed, I underwent one of the most disappointing culinary experiences a of my adult life. Picture this - nice pint of murphyâs in hand and having a little scout of the menu
Burgers, fries, the usual suspects - but in amongst your standard military issue pub grub, I lock eyes on the â Cacio e pepe croquetsâ.. Christ I thought ⊠what a great idea canât wait for that saltiness of the cheese, pops of black pepper on the tip of my tongue all cradled in a fried outer coating of goodness. No queue at the bar - ordered, along with the rest of the familyâs orders.. add another pint on top of that .. bosh sorted
Circa 20 minutes later, sat by the window, lovely bar staff come and drop off my burger, fries and over my right shoulder the anticipated plate of croquettes⊠well ladies and gentleman Iâm afraid to say what was presented to me was what factually tater tots, with the a unspecified anaemic white sauce. Even the small specs of black cracked pepper dusted over the top we sucked into the sadness of this sauce and was barely identifiable..
Now look - I love tater tots as much as the next guy, and in case youâre wondering, I have no Italian or French heritage but we really need to start thinking about what are acceptable standard in society here. Imagine what John and Gregg would say if you dropped a croquet on the menu and presented a tater tot - it would be bedlam. Itâs been three days post the event now and this whole ordeal is still occupying an alarming amount of mental capacity. So please, anyone reading this post, donât be...
Read moreAfter hosting my 30th birthday celebration at this pub I really couldn't have asked for more. It is a pub with lovely character and a cosy interior which gives off a classic local pub vibe. The large U - shaped bar had a great selection of beer and cider on tap which caters for everyone and at very reasonable prices. Great facilities include a dart board and a screen/area for a DJ and karaoke with a good sized area which can easily be used as a dance floor for party events. Mel, the current manager of the venue, was great from start to finish and really made us feel welcome and offered support and help in planning the event with us every step of the way. She clearly has lots of experience in hosting events and made things very easy for us. A...
