Located directly opposite Bethnal Green underground station and intersecting on the old Roman road towards the famous and ever popular brick lane, and Mare street from Hackney Central, Bethnal Green Park is a hotspot of activities for young locals.
On a bright sunny day expect to see this park dancing with hundreds of roller-skaters flowing rhythmically in circles outside the basketball courts, music blasting, people shooting hoops, kicking balls, the air a mash of musky fragrances.
Like many London parks, itâs endowed with its own gymnasium, tennis courts and childrenâs playground...
but lacks a water fountain!?
(However free water is available inside the library, bring your own bottle!)
The park hosts a lovely old Victorian library, with a domed spacious interior and pleasant atmosphere, with homeless people napping quietly on couches in corners.
This park is also a sanctuary for local homeless seeking shelter and rest, thus expect to see the occasional tent and benches occupied by sleeping bags.
Squirrels here are friendly and if encouraged with gladly approach and cautiously take food from your hands.
A Great place for young local people to meet and exercise, study in the library and socialise on the...

Read moreCurrently very popular with roller skaters of all ages and abilities. Be aware that the tarmac is not as flat as it looks. I had a go and from standing, rolled along like I was on electric skates. Very safe and friendly place though. Lots of nice grass to sit on. There's plenty of space to play basketball and a nice children's playground away from the road. It's possible to park right on Cambridge Heath Road but I'm not sure if that basically applies to local permit holders. Local shops for snacks and take aways across the road. No toilet facilities. I'm assuming people have relied on the library there for that but the council has had to close it. Local McD then (make sure you politely buy something). Great place to meet up and the first of a number of local community attractions to visit within a five minute walk and next to the...
