I am giving this venue one star because zero is not an option. I went the Ascott a few times in the past and I heard it was recently refurbished. I organise monthly lunches for a group of work colleagues and we were looking for a new location in the area so I went to the Ascott with a friend just to check it out.
There was nobody to greet or seat us so we finally had to go to the bar and ask a bartender to find us a table. It was mostly empty so we had a good choice. The few people who were seated in this huge place seemed all to be drinking, not eating - we were surprised at this but we eventually foud out why...
There were about five different menus on the table and these were confusing - all kinds of different offers and permutations of items. To begin with, there were no starters on the main menu, although the Senior menu did have a choice of only two - tomato soup or chicken wings, as I recollect. Why these weren't on the main menu I have no idea.
We decided to wait for a waiter so that these could be explained. There was lots of waiting but no waiter in sight - and the place was, as I said, almost empty. After 30 minutes with no waiter in sight, we gave up and left for a local cafe where we were immediately seated by charming waitress, who took our orders and after only a short time served us with a delicious meal. Why choose the Ascott again?
I originally posted this review on another site and the manager kindly responded to it. He stated that one had to order food at the bar as there was no waiter service!! All well and good but the woman who showed us to the table never mentioned this. The manager said he hoped I would come back there. Dream on... If you go to a Harvester or Beefeater venue, you get a waiter to take your order. Why choose The Ascott over any of these?
With pubs, you just wander in, order a drink at the bar and take a seat. If you want, you can get some crisps and peanuts at the bar. As a sideline, you might also be able to order more substantial food at the bar. That's the Ascott.
The Harvesters, Miller and Carters and the Beefeaters are restaurants that also provide bars. I would go there primarily for a meal and maybe a drink too. If I am to sit down with friends for a meal, I prefer these - where, unlike pubs, you get a friendly welcome at the door when you walk in and a waiter to seat you and take your order at the table. That’s my preference so I’ll stick to those, thank...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at the Ascot Pub in Eastcote, London and I must say, it was a wonderful experience. The pub has a warm and cozy atmosphere, perfect for a casual night out with friends or family. The decor is charming and the seating is comfortable, making it a great place to relax and catch up with loved ones.
The menu at Ascot Pub offers a variety of traditional British dishes, as well as a few international options. I was impressed by the quality of the food and the flavors used in each dish. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable, making it a great value for the money.
One of the highlights of my meal was the fish and chips, which were some of the best I have ever had. The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, and the chips were crispy and well-seasoned. I also tried the steak and ale pie, which was rich and flavorful. The pastry was crispy and the filling was generous and delicious.
The service at Ascot Pub was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure that our needs were met throughout the meal. They were also knowledgeable about the menu and able to make recommendations based on our tastes.
In conclusion, I highly recommend the Ascot Pub in Eastcote, London. Whether you're looking for a casual night out or a delicious meal, this pub has it all. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the food is delicious, and the service is excellent. I look forward to...
Read moreVery disappointing experience on Sunday evening. Being locals and regulars, we can only assume they have a very different kitchen staff on Sunday, which sadly isn't delivering up to standard compared to the week service. My friend had a terrible vegan burger (poorly assembled with barely any sauce or garnish in it - cheese raw still bouncing as the plate landed on our table - she had this before here and it was very different) and I had a pea risotto also poor and very blend. The feta tart was tasty but could do with more feta on it (could count the small cubes of cheese in a half hand). We waited 1 hour for delivery and had to complain several times before and after receiving our meal. Very disappointing as this place puts effort to organise activities/entertainment every day of the week. The kitchen should be more consistent and up to standard.
Service at the front/bar was nice as usual, bless them for putting up with customers complaints because of the bad day in kitchen.
Thank you to Davy for the kind gesture and giving us a refund. We will be definitely coming back and hope to have a better experience, we're...
