Out for an 18th Birthday celebration for our daughter with a party of 24 people.
Had such high expectations, but unfortunately it didn't live up to them on this occasion.
Upon booking, we were sent the menu that they use when having a large group booking and the set fee of £30pp.
This had two options, where you could have a set platter for 4 OR you choose 1 dish each from a selected list of hot starters and main dishes.
We were not told before we came that we had to have one or the other, so we all picked what we thought we were going to have. But no, on arrival we were told we had to have this cold starter platter for 4, so 6 lots of it for our party. The starter was average at best, with bread and hummus being the only real option, as well as some other mushy aubergine dips or creamy dips that weren't great. But, very clever... fill everyone up on bread.
Main course was a platter of meats with some rice and grains. This was where the three stars come from as it did taste nice, but wasn't what we all wanted or expected. Was £30 good value for what we got... NO. Only really paid for the main course as the starter wasn't touched by most, especially our 6 teenagers who turned their nose up at what was put in front of them.
Then we come to the drinks! Not only is it extortionate for a mocktail at £8.50, but you get 12.5% service charged for every drink in every round for them to bring it from the bar to your table, so its almost £10 for that soft drink! It doesn't end there, they tried to get us to order in groups of 6 where we were sat, but as a party of 24, younger cousins were all sat together and not with their parents who would be paying for their drinks. This meant they were trying to get people from different families to pay for their drinks... It doesn't work! We were also sat apart from the rest of the party on a table of 6 on our own, so couldn't integrate with the rest of the guests. Not great since it had been booked for over a month.
Never have we gone out where the manager had to be called over by their staff to deal with so many things, mainly because we were not informed properly before our visit.
They used the excuse of being a busy Friday night, to be given that average platter menu, but if we would have been told this in advance we certainly wouldn't have booked as nobody would have chose that starter if they had a choice. Plus, some of our group had been there previously on a Friday in a large group and just ordered from the menu!
At paying £700 (+£90 service charge) for 6 platters of mixed meat and rice with dips and bread to start, that isn't great value at all and we feel extremely let down to not have been told exactly what we would be able have to eat before the night. Our whole party would have been happy to provide you with what they wanted on a menu choice before the night so you could be prepared.
I wanted to walk out after the first argument about paying for drinks and ordering in groups of 6 on your table only and when the cold bread and dips were put down! But didn't want to ruin it for our daugther on her 18th birthday. Smiled through gritted teeth and couldn't wait to get home.
Such a shame as I was really looking forward to the Calamari followed by the lamb shank as stated on the menu we were sent, I nearly got to taste it.
Hopefully you can reflect on this so nobody else has to have the bad...

Read moreThe reason I am giving a 1 star to the service and 3 star overall is because, my friend and I made an online reservation last Saturday for dinner that evening. We got a response saying an email will be sent if booking is confirm. No response was received but we decided to try our luck anyway. Upon arrival, my friends name was on the reservation list so we did have a table but no confirmed email. We got to order drinks and starters which was delicious. Now comes the service part. While we were enjoying our starters, the tall waitress asked if we were finished because the food is nearly ready to which my friend said we are not. Literally 1 minute later, she came and took our plates saying she was bringing the food. And yes we were still eating!! There was still our starters on the plates. We were surprised 😮. She brought the food out which was delicious as always but she kept looking at our plates perhaps to let us know she was waiting to clear them up. We just felt uncomfortable. Anyways this time we managed to clear our plates and yes you guessed right, plates were immediately off the table. My friend ordered a double whisky and coke. He poured some coke into the glass and was enjoying the whisky. Same waitress without asking poured the rest of the coke into his whisky and ruined it. By this time we were ready to just get the hell out. The place wasn't very busy at the time and we didn't understand the RUSH. We felt very rushed the whole time. We've always had a very good experience there even held a few birthdays but this time 1 waitress decided to ruin...
