Awesome Chips in Wood Green is a standout destination for anyone who loves proper, flavour-packed fries. Located on the bustling High Road, this small eatery specializes in Belgian-style hand-cut chips that are freshly fried to order. The result is a consistently crispy, golden exterior with a soft and fluffy inside—chips done the right way.
What really makes Awesome Chips unique is the customisation. Customers can choose from a wide variety of seasonings and sauces—ranging from classic options like ketchup and garlic mayo to more adventurous flavours like blue cheese, spicy mango, or peri-peri dust. You can mix and match to create your own perfect chip combo, and it’s great fun trying different combinations on each visit.
Portion sizes are generous, and the pricing is reasonable for the quality and quantity. Even a small box can be surprisingly filling, and the large portion is perfect for sharing. The fries are always served piping hot and well-seasoned, and the staff generally prepare your order quickly, even when the shop is busy.
The venue itself is more of a grab-and-go spot—there’s limited seating and it’s usually quite busy, especially during peak hours. While service can sometimes feel a bit rushed, most staff are efficient and friendly. Just keep in mind it’s not really designed for a sit-down meal; it’s more of a quick, satisfying snack or takeaway option.
Overall, Awesome Chips delivers exactly what the name promises: awesome chips. Whether you’re craving a quick bite, a late-night snack, or a comfort food fix, it’s worth a stop if you’re in the Wood Green area. With bold flavours, crispy fries, and fun customisation, it’s a chip...
Read moreAt first, everything was... well, great. I used to come here often, and back then, the service was excellent, the place was spotless, and everything felt clean and well taken care of.
But unfortunately, things have changed for the worse. The place is now extremely dirty. Hygiene seems to be completely ignored. The staff are always unkempt and look like they haven't bothered to clean their uniforms in days. The boxes they use to serve the fries are filthy — literally covered in dust and grime. Mine was so dirty it looked like it hadn’t been wiped in weeks. You could see the dust clearly because the box was black — it was disgusting.
Everywhere you look, the place is just nasty. Dirty floors, dirty counters, dirty everything. It feels like no one cares anymore.
The fries themselves still taste the same, thankfully, but the sauces are no longer what they used to be. They now give you a tiny amount and charge way more than before. The price has gone up, but the portions have gone down.
Still, the worst part — and what really made me write this review — is the level of dirt and lack of cleanliness. No matter how good the fries are, I won’t be coming back to a place that looks and feels...
Read moreNothing awesome about this. Its just standard chips u can get from any chippies, that use the Marie Pipers potatoes, fried in that soil specific for chips. Frying chips is nothing sophisticated or out of the ordinary. They give u the option of either mixing your chips with a sauce (charge extra) in a metal bowl container before serving it to you on a paper cone. A medium portion is £3.25 (which is the equivalent of a small from a standard chippie), then 60p on top for the sauce. The service isn't exactly fast, as the mixing of chips & sauce is what slows down process, and there's nothing else to help speed it up, effectively creating a bit of a queue, which gives the impression to that this must be a very popular business thus attracting more to try, and has a snowball effect. I'm giving it 3 stars simply because it is disproportionately pricy and the queuing system is flawed imo. Those that don't want their chips to be mixed in with the sauce shouldn't have to wait long as it's a simple process of putting chips into a paper cone. Maybe they should have two separate queuing systems, one for with & one...
