Charlie’s — Restaurant in London

Charlie's looks a lovely spot, and is in a great location to get lots of walking traffic customers. It's right next to Primark in Wood Green and has inviting decor and an extensive menu for breakfast and lunch. The coffee was standard and quite good, served in cute mugs to the table. I also ordered the "Eggs & Bacon" waffle set. For the waffle set I found the presentation to be professional: there were pesto drips in a circle around the double stacked waffles with bacon, and a single fried egg on the very top in the centre. However I found the waffle to be severely oversweet and dry. crumbs that I would pick up with the back of my fork would either crumble or crunch in my mouth as mostly sugar. Even for a sweet waffle set I feel this would be too much. The bacon as well was very dry, leading to a difficult pair. The egg though, lovely. Loved the egg, and the small amount of pesto. The atmosphere feels more cluttered than it perhaps should. The angle of chairs for the main row is in the restaurant style with the table edge against the wall and chairs on either end. To fill the space it makes customers bump into each other often. In the back as well there are single seats and a 'hidden' door leading to restrooms through the greenery wall, but there must be a draft because the door doesnt latch and instead breathes constantly, which made me think I would have to scoot for someone at least a dozen times in error. Phenomenal coffee shop and probably the best I’ve come across so far in Woodgreen.

Service: impeccable esp since I’m not an easy customer. They listened to my questions, were willing to edit my meal to accommodate allergies/preferences, and even took the time to confirm whether or not I was vegan since I ordered a vegan pancake but not a vegan coffee. The folks at the counter are very friendly and patient.

Food: Portions size is good (not too small or too big) and will not leave you hungry. I’ve been here twice so far. The first time, I ordered the blueberry pancake and bacon and it was beyond delicious but not like your typical American style pancake (sweet soft and fluffy) so keep that in mind to not be surprised. In my opinion, I liked Charlie’s variation more as it is soft savory and the bacon makes it salty. The second time I ordered the Bacon and Egg French toast with poached egg. I definitely like Charlie’s version better the American version as the bread has a similar consistency as the pancakes instead of the typical American white bread being used. It made the taste more fuller and flavorful.

Coffee: I ordered the mocha frapp with coconut milk and it is to die for!!! You can tell they use good coffee bean to make the drink and fresh cold coconut milk. The whip cream is not vegan friendly so be careful if you don’t ask for whip cream if you are vegan. If you are not vegan then it is a delicious must have! I hope they one day will offer a vegan or at least lactose free whip...

A first time visit. First impressions were good. Disabled access in that the entrance was wide enough - just had a slight "lip", couldn't really call it a step - so someone with a walking stick or wheelchair could get in/out. There is a small seating area outside on either side of the front door. Ready smiles from the staff on entry. Very helpful with assisting me to a seat (I have osteoarthritis in both knees). A variety of wooden chairs to choose from, all quite sturdy. Simple but aesthetically pleasing decor. Entrance to toilets cleverly disguised by the plant decoration on the back wall. [I didn't use it so don't know if they also had a disabled toilet separate]. My visit was a "farewell meet up coffee" with colleagues. I had a large cappuccino and a chocolate croissant both were lovely BUT the cappuccino was like warm - disappointing. Service was quick and friendly and you didn't feel rushed despite the fact that it was fairly busy and we took up a lot of space! Oh, they also serve breakfast, anyway you like. The prices are reasonable and the food certainly looked good. Certainly a good place to drop in for coffee or breakfast. They certainly made me...
