Bar + Block Steakhouse London Wimbledon — Restaurant in London

On Monday (26/09/22) evening I had a reservation booked for my birthday dinner for 19:30 for 14 people. I am saddened to say ‘disappointed’ is an understatement.

Firstly, one guest happened to arrived slightly early for the booking, possibly 20 minutes early, and asked to be seated at the table booking but was told by the waiter that she is too early and will have to wait. Now, I’d understand if it was extremely busy…but there was LITERALLY 3 tables inside the ENTIRE restaurant. It is a fairly large restaurant and the guest could have easily been seated instead of forced to stand by the door. I found that extremely rude and unnecessary.

Secondly, upon all of the guests arriving, naturally we started by ordering drinks. We ordered drinks within a few minutes of arriving…25 minutes later still no drinks at the table. Not only that, but the only reason they did eventually arrive is because I went to the bar (where the drinks had been sitting for 15 minutes) and asked the bartender to bring them to us.

Lastly, the food. We were sat with a full view of the kitchen. We could see that our food was being plated (with no sense of urgency I may add, something you would expect when cooking steaks for almost 14 people) and our waiter was nowhere in sight. We were already afraid our food would get cold on account of previously seeing two other burgers sitting on the kitchen counter for 15 minutes. Our food was no exception. Eventually it arrived (after some time) and my medium rare sirloin steak was freezing to the touch. I sent it back and warned that if it gets put back on the grill and cooks more I’ll be upset. It arrives back luke warm, dry, and sinewy. No one else was terribly happy with their meal either.

Not only was this embarrassing but pretty much ruined my birthday dinner. The food is average (overpriced for the level of service and food you get) and the service is absolutely HORRENDOUS.

Excellent Covid-Secure measures. All staff and chef's wearing face coverings. Plastic Dividers at the checkin and between each table. Tables were also kept apart and seating at every other table to create lots of space. They also sit people as spread out throughout the restaurant as possible. One way systems and hand sanitiser available in several locations.

Our waitress, Siobhan, was incredible. She was the only one working on Friday night, which we put down to Covid measures and just less need for staff. She had the lay of the land down, she was kind and calm, and very helpful.

Managers were really, really accommodating with my father-in-law who is a diabetic. So that was incredibly appreciated.

We were there celebrating and they really helped to make it feel special for us.

There was a slight issue with our meals, but the staff immediately apologised and brought us back perfectly improved dishes and it was so tasty.

We really enjoyed our night here. I think this is possibly a forgotten spot in Wimbledon since it's near the end of the town and maybe some people overlook it since it is attached to a hotel, but it's really a very lovely place with SUPER kind staff members who are very accommodating. We...

TERRIBLE! We arrived and waited at reception while the host (who was also a chef) checked in the system what seemed like awfully long. Once we were seated we looked at the menus and ordered. Wine arrived. Glasses terribly dirty. There was lipstick on both of them so we asked to changed them. New glasses arrived - they were wet but the waiter poured the wine like it was normal. We should have left at this point. We didn’t which was bad mistake because what came after was even worse. The steak arrived. The meat was actually tasty but we didn’t receive 2 out of 4 of the sides that we ordered and no sauces either. We asked for the sides and sauces but it didn’t arrive so we asked for the steak to be put under the lights as it was getting cold. There was a lot of food piling on the pass and the staff argued amongst themselves. We ordered rocket and Parmesan salad and only received rocket drizzled with salad sauce. I asked for the Parmesan and they said that that’s how it comes. Our sides still didn’t come and the staff kept arguing in front of the pass as there was a lot of confusion where the food goes.
