This morning I finally had a chance to venture over and checkout this much lauded cafe located not far from Smithfield Market in Farringdon. I received a warm welcome from the staff and my breakfast arrived quickly. I have to say the quality of both the bacon and sausage was miles ahead of what you'd normally get in a regular cafe. The bacon was smokey and thick cut. Three rashers is very generous, it was so good I only wish there was more . The sausage had a nice herby flavour and great texture. The fried tomato was well cooked and sweet to taste. My tea came in a glass bucket, well a larger than average cup anyway. The establishment feels authentic and securely rooted within the local community. I can see why it's popular as there's no pretense, nothing fancy just good honest English fare. I'd say for value and quality this has jumped straight into my top five breakfast places in the capital. Beppe I take my hat off to...
Read moreI'm quite surprised at the good reviews. I had a sausages, egg, beans and chipsa nd tea. The sausages were very charred on the outside, there were only a few beans, the egg was soft but the edges of the white were burnt and the chips were soggy. You have to ask for sauce and mustard. The mustard came in a large glass dish with a table spoon in it. It wouldn't have taken much effort to use a small container for single use. The cook was having a blazing row with someone on the phone in full earshot which probably explains the poor cooking and the time it took to arrive. I thought £11 was too much for this. Another customer had a word with him about something and he explained that the extract vents had been cleaned esterday and that's where all the bits came from. I didn't take any photos, probably should have done. I hope they take the criticism positively and improve...
Read moreThis is a really cute cafe. I had the breakfast and the food tasted great. I was even thinking to ask if they sold the sausages separately! It has the typical builders cafe vibe but not intimidating at all. Has a warm family vibe to it (the photos of kids on the fridge were sweet). The space is quite tight but seems like enough seating. (If you are a larger person, then the seats may be an issue as they are booth type seats that don't move. If you know, you know). Overall, a really lovely cafe in the heart of the city, which is always a gem to find. The only thing I would recommend to change is the takeaway boxes and cutlery. The polystyrene box was OK but the plastic cutlery was flimsy and impossible to eat with. Would prefer a wooden set of cutlery and maybe bagasse box for durability. But defo...
