No longer the bridge between speciality and mainstream coffee chains, itâs lost everything that once made it promising. Just a tad better and more modern than Starbucks/Costa now. The passionate, psyched team behind the counter of every site made this brand, now itâs just soulless responses and fat iPads for ordering. Speciality coffee/third wave isnât just buying beans of a certain grade, it encompasses the whole experience a customer receives. This one was bad.
After travelling from a different terminal with the sole purpose of buying a large cup of their guest filter (batch brewed) I successfully ordered on their McDonalds style iPad. I was then informed they had run out of both filters(pre-brewed filter, not the actual coffee) and they wouldnât brew any more because they were closing in an hour. If they were closing in 10 minutes I could empathise as it takes time to prepare a batch but to refuse to make a drink which is an on the menu item so far out from close is ridiculous. I donât know if this is a head office prescribed limitation or just laziness from the staff but neither are acceptable, especially when operating in a 24/7 airport when youâre likely to be as busy in the last hour as in the first.
I then kindly asked if the team could make my replacement drink with either of the filter coffee beans as theyâre arabica not robusta(their espresso is the latter) which is the main reason I wanted their filter. This is a reasonable request and I understand what it entails. Sadly this was also met with a âcomputer says noâ response, as they couldnât comprehend that the grinder (EK47) could grind for espresso as well as filterâŚ. Anyone working in a âspeciality coffee shopâ who cannot brew up an espresso with an EK should not be working there. People in independents long to have kit of that quality laying around.
Iâm just saddened to be honest. It once represented a high street brand across multiple cities which you could rely on to get a âgoodâ cup of speciality coffee with some good craic. A place with a variety of choices to suit all folk.
Now itâs just somewhere people can get average coffee with a less mainstream brand on the cup and nothing more than that. Itâs no longer about celebrating coffee. And for those who only drink filter, another place to get peeved off at when they offer an americano as a replacement, acting as though theyâre just the sameâŚ.
Maybe one day thereâll be another Starbucks killer brand trying to celebrate coffee, only then theyâll be replacing...

But also, got advice on great coffee and they helped me find my way through the terminal and onto my bus. Fantastic people and friendly smiles ... ... ... PS. After edition. I'm quite sure that giving every each of staff member tag with name plus WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT NEXT TO NAME FLAG OF NATIONALITY WILL BE MORE THAN HELPFUL PLUS LOOKS MORE PRO COMPARE TO OTHERS ... What do I mean by that. Check that out. It's airport. It's Heathrow airport. Biggest airport in whole Europe. Weekly use that "junction" dozens of thousands of tourists. Not everyone are speak English. BUT WHEN... they get a chance to see on first moment who is what nationality and get at least that easy chance to make his journey easyer... Guess who they in future will recommend to they friends? Uncompensated staff of Heathrow bus who do not give a dame or maybe place where the can drink good coffee or tea. Eat something hot. Get a "pitstop" plus be able to communicate what they will remember for long. It's only my advice what I heard from those two workers above. But hey!!!! ITS ABSOLUTELY SIMPLE AND BRILLIANT....
