Blue and orange is one of my go to restaurants with my kids, partner or family members and friends. It's a nice cosy place in Thornton heath. Living close by its nice to have a go to place.
I order the same thing all the time!! Quite boring but I like it. Lamb chops with fries coleslaw and mushrooms.
Over time I noticed the differences in the food quality. Sometimes my lamb chops are slightly burnt or sometimes just right. The lamb chops are 5 chops with not much meat, very plain but nice if adding my own salt and pepper. The fries are nice. The best thing in my opinion on their menu is the coleslaw- it's very rich, creamy and flavoursome.
They do give you big portions of everything. So I don't tend to get any starters.
I do think however the price your paying to be served a can of coke at £1.50 when your paying nearly £12 for a main dish needs to be addressed and considering the lamb chops are frozen with no spice. I do think either the price on the drinks should be lowered. Considering less than a couple of shops down is a poundland at what point do you need to spend £1.50 on a can of drink when you can get 3 cans of fizzy pop for a pound.
Anyhow at best Blue and orange is a nice place to eat. The service is very hit or miss. They are reasonably quick in taking your order but the wait for your food is long. Considering the lamb chops are freezer food- there's no excuse for lengthy waits. But I know it's worth it.
I would recommend to try here. You get your money worth in terms if portions not so much in quality of food. To be paying nearly £20 for one person- drink, main dish, side dish and dessert you can't go wrong but honestly if you really want flavoursome quality cuts of meat go somewhere else for a cheaper price. Only within a 15 min...

The prices surely are on the higher side so will keep this for special occasions. We made a reservation and visited this place recently. It's decor is nice, colourful and feels cosy. For starters, we had the borek, chicken wings and onion rings. The onion rings came on a bed of salad and needed a bit more seasoning for my taste. Wings were delicious and so was the borek. For mains, we ordered for the lamb cutlets, stuffed aubergine and pan fried chicken. Lamb cutlets were well cooked and tender. The stuffed aubergine was surprisingly delicious and I was impressed with it. Unfortunately, the pan fried chicken was a thick slab of overcooked dry chicken in a very heavy white sauce which didn't quite hit the mark. The accompanying chips were great though! In the current situation, the table layout here is not best to maintain social distancing during busy hours. Overall, a great place with good, friendly staff and food cooked fresh with quality ingredients. Will...
Read moreOnly frequented this place 3 times but each time the food has been excellent so will be looking to visit more often in the future. This time I had the Char-Grilled Lamb Shish & why wife had the Stuffed Roasted Aubergine. The lamb was beautifully cooked & full of flavour as did my wife's dish. Add to that the refreshing Efes beer. This place is a little gem in Thornton Heath for which friendly & professional staff should be proud. Latest visit on 28th May 2023. We've frequented this place many times since my original post. The Lamb Shish continues to be mine & my wife's choice of meal along with lovely malty Efes beer Staff continue to be friendly & professional as always. We'll be back again next...
